Leeds United have signed Anton Stach but where does that leave their transfer budget for the rest of the window?
The summer transfer window looks like it’s gathering pace for Leeds United as, just a few days after signing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, the club have made Anton Stach their sixth summer addition.
The giant German adds yet more height and physicality to Daniel Farke’s side ahead of a strenuous Premier League survival battle, with Leeds paying £17.3m (rising to £19.9m) for Stach.
Stach, who is already liking what he’s hearing from Farke, also follows Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson to Elland Road.
The 26-year-old’s arrival has taken Leeds’ spending in the transfer window past the £60m mark but, thankfully, there is still a fair bit of funds left in the budget.

How Anton Stach’s £19.9m move impacts Leeds United transfer budget
Before the Championship title was even lifted in May, Farke called for the 49ers to show ambition in the transfer market ahead of the Premier League return.
Leeds might not have spent as much as Sunderland, but they have certainly shown that ambition by signing top-level players that clearly fit Farke’s ideal mould and doing so on the cheap.
Leeds and Sunderland have both bought six players but the Whites have half the expenditure. Sunderland’s signings of Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki alone equal £57.5m.
| Player | Transfer fee |
| Lukas Nmecha | Free |
| Jaka Bijol | £15m |
| Sebastiann Bornauw | £5.1m |
| Gabriel Gudmundsson | £10.3m |
| Sean Longstaff | £12m (rising to £15m) |
| Anton Stach | £17.3m (rising to £19.9m) |
| Total | £59.7m (rising to £65.3m) |
Leeds began the window with a reported budget of £150m for transfers. As they’ve been canny operators and not been drawn into overspending on targets, that still leaves £84.7m to spend before deadline day.
That’s also working under the assumption that the potential extra £5.6m in fees that could still be spent on Longstaff and Stach are included in this summer’s budget, which they might not be, given they aren’t immediate expenses.
Leeds should still have plenty of room to operate in the transfer window yet.
The players Leeds United must still sign in the transfer window
It doesn’t mean £150m will definitely be spent, though. Given Leeds’ reluctance to overspend, it’s hard to see them blowing the whole budget, especially when signings might be needed in January.
However, given Paraag Marathe has said every last penny will be spent, you can’t rule it out, either.
PSR rules must remain a consideration, too, as Leeds really don’t want to break them and some departures might be required to balance the books.
Players who could leave Leeds United in the summer transfer window:
- Patrick Bamford
- Mateo Joseph
- Illan Meslier
- Isaac Schmidt
- Jack Harrison
- Brenden Aaronson
- Pascal Struijk
But strengthening the squad remains much more important than potentially weakening it, and Leeds have plenty of crucial signings they still need to make.
Illan Meslier began his redemption arc against Man Utd on Saturday with a positive performance, but Leeds do still need a new goalkeeper for the top flight. They have struggled to find one so far.
A striker who can guarantee Premier League goals is also a requirement, with interest in Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz remaining high.
A high-quality winger to bring an extra spark, like Igor Paixao, would come in handy.
Another attacking midfielder to replace Aaronson, such as Christiantus Uche, and a versatile full-back to provide cover would round off the squad nicely.
