Christiantus Uche is the latest player to emerge as a target for Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

As the Premier League season looms and the transfer window creeps closer to deadline day, things are only going to get more exciting and frantic at Leeds United.

It’s been a steady summer so far, with four new arrivals secured and a fifth in the shape of Sean Longstaff not too far behind.

But Leeds have been massively outspent by Sunderland and Burnley so far and Daniel Farke needs a lot of investment in his squad if he is to keep them up.

A goalkeeper, winger and another centre-midfielder appear to be the top priorities at present but a new attacking midfielder to upgrade upon Brenden Aaronson is also required.

While the chase on that front has been comparatively quiet, Christiantus Uche might have emerged as an ideal solution.

Who is Christiantus Uche?

Uche is a Nigerian footballer who plays for La Liga side Getafe.

He played amateur football in his hometown as a youngster, but his professional career has completely taken place in Spain.

He was spotted by minnows Moralo CP in 2022 and has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the years since. He quickly moved up the divisions to Ceuta and a few months later, caught the eye of Getafe.

Uche moved to Getafe in June 2024 and scored on his debut against Bilbao before going on to enjoy a successful debut season in the top flight. Now Leeds want him.

Christiantus Uche to Leeds United transfer news

Uche first emerged as a possible target for Leeds in early June, with it coming to light that he has a £21m release clause in his contract.

It was reported that Leeds were beating Atletico Madrid and Newcastle in the race.

However, his agent, Peter Ejiasi, rubbished the links in June. He told All Nigeria Soccer: “There is nothing in those stories. Uche is a happy player of Getafe and is currently in Russia fully committed to his national team duties. When the transfer window opens, you’ll hear a lot of news.

“Some fiction, some gossip. We are calm. It’s still too early to say what (the outcome) can be, even though it is a good thing for the lad. It shows he is doing something right.”

However, the speculation heated up again in mid-July when it was reported that Uche had been allowed to miss Getafe training amid Leeds’ interest.

On July 18, it was reported by The Athletic that Leeds have made an enquiry for Uche but have yet to make a bid.

What position does Christiantus Uche play?

Uche is a midfielder but is versatile enough to play in any role in the middle of the park.

Primarily, he is an attacking midfielder and it’s understood Leeds see him in the profile to challenge Aaronson for the creative spot behind the striker.

Uche has also played half of his games for Getafe as the main striker, so he would come in handy if Leeds were ever short on options up front.

He is also comfortable in a box-to-box No.8 role or even as a defensive midfielder, a tactical flexibility Farke is sure to love.

Born in Owerri, Nigeria, on May 19 2003, Uche is 22 years old, as of July 2025.

That is a lot younger than the 26-28 age bracket Farke has been recruiting this summer, but it would be good for Leeds to add some youthful players to the ranks as well as experienced heads.

One box of Farke’s ideal profile this summer that Uche does fit, though, is his height.

The midfielder stands at a towering 6’3″ tall, which would make him yet another physically imposing presence in the Leeds squad, should he be signed.

According to Salary Sport, Uche earns a meagre (for a footballer, anyway) £8,400 a week at Getafe. That equals £436,800 a year.

If that figure is correct, then Leeds would be able to tempt him to move to Elland Road by offering him a significant pay rise that still wouldn’t put him among the club’s top earners.
