Christantus Uche is one of the latest names to be linked with a move to Leeds United after a stunning first season with Getafe – and now, his agent has been speaking about his future.

Bought from Spanish minnows Ceuta in the summer of 2024, Uche may have been forgiven for needing a year or two to reach top-flight level. But he hit the ground running, making him extreme value for money.

Getafe finished in 13th place, but such was the relegation scrap in La Liga this season, that was only two points ahead of 18th-placed Leganes. Newly-capped Nigeria star Uche was absolutely crucial to that.

Getafe scored 34 La Liga goals during 2024-25 and Uche was directly involved in 10 of them, despite being used in different positions – midfield, no.10, even up top. Leeds are interested in signing Uche.

Christantus Uche’s agent rubbishes reports but hints at transfer

Leeds are reportedly willing to activate Uche’s £21m clause with Brighton also being linked. Reports on Thursday even said that Leeds had intensified talks for Uche, and are further along than Atletico Madrid.

However, Uche’s agent Peter Ejiasi has been speaking to All Nigeria Soccer on Thursday. He dismissed reports that have reached the public domain – but hinted that there will be some news down the line.

“There is nothing in those stories. Uche is a happy player of Getafe and is currently in Russia fully committed to his national team duties. When the transfer window opens, you’ll hear a lot of news.

“Some fiction, some gossip. We are calm. It’s still too early to say what (the outcome) can be, even though it is a good thing for the lad. It shows he is doing something right,” Ejiasi said amid Leeds United’s links.

Which other Premier League clubs are interested in Uche…

The initial report suggesting Leeds were willing to activate Uche’s release clause also said that Brighton were happy to pay that figure to land Uche. Further reports say Aston Villa and Newcastle are also keen.

But a move to Brighton, Villa or Newcastle would see Uche become a rotational player – likely to warm the bench. At Elland Road, Uche would start over Brenden Aaronson, who Leeds are looking to replace.

Other no.10’s on the Leeds shortlist include Emi Buendia, Gustavo Hamer and James McAtee but at a small-ish fee of £21m for a player still in the infancy of his career, Leeds will surely be tempted.
