Leeds United’s Anton Stach shone against Wolverhampton Wanderers, although a number of other players were also excellent at Molineux.

The majority of the plaudits deservedly went Anton Stach’s way after a goal and an assist, but also for his ability to dominate the game during the first half with his defensive reading and positional awareness.

The giant Leeds United midfielder won the fan vote for Player of the Match which comes after Stach shone for Leeds for most of August despite some disappointing results.

Stach was even teasing Wolves pre-match on the day of the game. However, just a day before the fixture, some Leeds fans wanted Stach dropped against Wolves. He vindicated Daniel Farke’s decision and more.

Anton Stach tops FotMob’s match ratings after Leeds beat Wolves 3-1

Stach led the Leeds match ratings against Wolves, especially as no Leeds player had scored a direct free-kick for over a year now and the German stepped up via that moment of brilliance.

His assist for Noah Okafor, snapping in to win the ball back and weighting the pass perfectly, was also a huge moment in the match. It’s fair to say that Stach was the biggest part of a statement Leeds win at Molineux.

Leeds set records against Wolves but so did the German midfielder, with Stach breaking a 22-year wait for Leeds when wrapping the ball into the top corner behind Jose Sa.

Stach sent a hilarious Leeds message post-Wolves as his reaction to the win. But the 26-year-old still has more to come after a strong start in West Yorkshire after the move from Hoffenheim.

Troy Deeney was extremely impressed with Stach but an even more impressive reveal has since landed. That’s because, per FotMob, Stach wasn’t just in the Round Five team of the week, but the highest rated player for this weekend.

Leeds summer target Harry Wilson of Fulham is also there with an 8.3, while Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch notched an 8.7 and was the next best rating in the team after Stach’s 8.9.

Like Stach, he claimed a goal and an assist from midfield, having scored and assisted in the 2-1 win over Everton at Anfield. Wilson, meanwhile, scored once in a 3-1 home win for the Cottagers.

It’s not quite as impressive but Stach came third in Sofascore’s overall ranking, with Gravenberch and Alex Iwobi slightly ahead of him. It was the same story on WhoScored as well.

It was an 8.5 rating for Stach, making him the Premier League Player of the Week.

Stach named the Leeds signing of the summer

Stach was Leeds’ most expensive signing at £19.9 million. That is if all add-ons are met, which is more likely if he continues to perform as he did against Wolves consistently.

Not only that, but Stach has been branded Leeds’ best signing. He sat 17th overall when ranking Premier League signings, too. The Athletic wrote: ““As seems to be the case with every Leeds signing in this window, his feet stick out the end of the bed.

“The 6ft 4in (193cm) midfielder excels at breaking up play, reading and dictating the game and playing incisive passes. A real steal at [an initial] £17.3m, too. Looks Leeds’ best signing of the summer.”
