Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Hoffenheim midfielder Anton Stach with a deal expected to be announced either on Monday, or Tuesday.

The Germany international arrived in Leeds over the weekend after Hoffenheim confirmed Stach was not in their squad for a pre-season friendly on Saturday. Stach has agreed a four-year contract with Leeds.

At 6ft 4in, Stach is another example of Leeds signing a player above 6ft. Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha and Sean Longstaff are all 6ft or more. Gabriel Gudmundsson is 5ft 11, tall for a left-back.

Gudmundsson, Bijol, Bornauw and Nmecha are all 26 while Longstaff is 27, though boasts 171 Premier League appearances. There is a trend among Leeds’ signings so far, and Stach shares those similarities.

How much Leeds are paying to sign Stach initially, and in add-ons

It has been widely reported that Leeds are paying slightly more than £17m to get their man and that is the case, at least initially. According to a report from TeamTalk, Leeds will splash a fee of £17.3m on Stach.

On top of that, Leeds will also pay some performance-related add-ons. While the specificity of these add-ons remains unknown, if all add-ons are met, Leeds will pay another £2.3m on top of their initial figure.

That takes the overall deal to a fee of £19.9m for Stach. Easily the club’s most-expensive deal so far, far exceeding what Leeds have spent on Sean Longstaff and Jaka Bijol, who both cost Leeds fees of £15m.

How much have Leeds now spent, and what remains in the coffers

Florian Plettenberg says a deal for Stach is now “sealed”, taking spending north of £60m. Leeds have now spent a total of £64.9m with Stach’s signing, with Nmecha brought to the club from Wolfsburg on a free.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has set Leeds back a fee of £5m, as he replaces Max Wober. Gudmundsson has come in as an upgrade on Junior Firpo and the Sweden international has cost Leeds a fee of £10m from Lille.

A smidge under £65m, and that fee is expected to go north of £100m in the next few weeks as Leeds eye a starting striker, a goalkeeper and a replacement for Manor Solomon on the left of Daniel Farke’s attack.
