Disaster news for Leeds United as 49ers target decides what country he wants to play in next

Leeds United may be taking a huge gamble by not signing anyone for the second half of the season. Whilst Daniel Farke still has a strong squad, one or two additions seem necessary.

Daniel Farke’s side are yet to make their first signing of 2025. There’s now less than a week left of the winter window and Leeds United could quite easily go the month without making a signing.

Speaking before the window, Farke said Leeds would be quiet in January. He’s kept to his word but much to the disappointment of many supporters who are eager to see at least one or two signings made.

There’s every chance that happens still, though Farke hinted that Leeds United aren’t close to signing anyone following his side’s bore draw against Burnley on Monday night.

If any position is to be bolstered, it looks like a new striker will be signed. Several have been linked with moves to Elland Road, one being former Manchester City and Leicester City hitman Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iheanacho is free to leave Sevilla after a tough first half-season at the club following his free transfer from Leicester City in the summer. Reports even claimed that Leeds United were set to sign Iheanacho, though it’s clear now that those reports may have been premature.

The latest on the 28-year-old Nigerian comes from Spanish outlet ABC. They write that Sevilla have made the decision that Iheanacho will now go out on loan during the January transfer window, instead of leaving the club permanently.

The same report also outlines Iheanacho’s wish to move to France and play in Ligue 1. ABC write that Iheanacho ‘is looking forward to an offer from Ligue 1, where his destiny seems to be for the next few months’.

Which Leeds United striker targets are still available for 49ers?

Iheanacho looks set to join the likes of Mergim Berisha in the category of strikers linked with Leeds United in January, but to seal moves elsewhere: Berisha recently sealed his return to Augsburg.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Leeds United are interested in Adam Daghim who plays for fellow RedBull club Salzburg. Others mentioned with Leeds in recent weeks include Alvyn Sanches and Willem Geubbels who play in the Swiss Super League for Lausanne and St Gallen respectively.

A striker signing seems like a top priority for Farke, who’s also light at centre-back right now. A signing in either position would make for a strong end to the January transfer window.
