Aston Villa gem Louie Barry was a man in huge demand in this January transfer window. Leeds United were among those keen, but Villa are sending him to Hull City.
Championship strugglers Hull City are the fortunate and seemingly quite lucky side set to land Louie Barry in this January transfer window, after several weeks of speculation as to where he’d end up.
Leeds United were interested in Barry for a long time. At different stages of the race for Barry, different clubs were named as the front-runners, though Leeds ever seemed like the perfect fit for the former Barcelona man.
Compared to Ipswich Town’s Jack Clarke, Barry will now tackle the Championship following an impressive loan spell with Stockport County in League One where he scored 15 goals in 23 league games.
Barry won’t go up against Leeds in the remainder of this 2024/25 season. Instead, the Whites will have to watch from afar. But it’s now been revealed why Hull has been picked as the best destination for Barry.

Ruben Selles factor sees Louie Barry near move to Hull City
Hull City have had a pretty tough 2024/25 season so far. The Tigers finished 7th in the Championship table last time round but then made the shock decision to sack Liam Rosenior, and appointed Tim Walter instead. He lasted only a few months before Hull then poached Ruben Selles from Reading.
After two wins in three, including Hull City’s 3-0 win over Sheffield United last time out, the Tigers now sit in 19th place of the table. Selles is turning things around and talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook says that Selles was deemed the right manager for Barry’s development.
Crook posted on X: “Louie Barry is joining #HCAFC from #AVFC on loan. Unai Emery believes Ruben Selles Is the ideal manager for his young talent.”
Two Leeds United targets near moves to other clubs
Leeds United’s wait for their first signing of 2025 goes on. For Farke, Barry never seemed like a key target, and whilst he may not have played all that much at Elland Road should he have joined, he’d have bolstered the squad for sure.
And he joins Emiliano Buendia in also nearing a move to another club. Barry’s Villa teammate Buendia is on the verge of joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Buendia was a key target for Leeds in this January transfer window. But he’ll become another player linked with Leeds, but who ends up playing his football elsewhere.
The Whites are back in Championship action at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.
