The wait for Leeds United’s first signing of 2025 goes on. Now a week away from deadline day, Daniel Farke may be getting worried about the lack of movement behind the scenes, as are supporters.
Certainly, many fans are concerned about Leeds United’s January transfer business so far. The only deals to happen are outgoings with Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Crew both sealing loan exits from Elland Road.
Daniel Farke’s side remain in 1st place of the Championship table after a goalless draw against Burnley on Monday night. But that game and several others in recent weeks highlight the need for some new blood in this Leeds side.
There’s no end of players linked with Leeds United. But there’s a distinct lack of reports stating that talks are underway, or players are undergoing medicals, for instance.
There was one, however. Sevilla striker Kelechi Iheanacho had reportedly agreed to join Leeds United, though we’re yet to really hear anymore about the potential move.

Latest on Kelechi Iheanacho as Leeds United promotion rivals join race
Iheanacho, 28, is well out of favour at Sevilla. He joined on a free transfer from Leicester City in the summer, though the former Manchester City man has featured just nine times in La Liga since, failing to score for his new club.
Iheanacho is free to leave Sevilla before deadline day. The Spanish outfit are even willing to let him leave for nothing. But Leeds may be worried to now hear that promotion rivals Sheffield United are keen on the Nigerian striker, per an emerging report from Nigerian outlet Soccernet.
He says that the Blades, along with Watford and Greek giants Panathinaikos are all keen on Iheanacho, with no mention of a Leeds deal having been agreed.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United transfer hint doesn’t sound promising
After the game against Burnley on Monday night, Farke gave a Leeds United transfer update. He didn’t give much away, saying he needed to check his phone. At the same time, his comments suggest nothing is close.
Farke told the press: “I have not checked my phone for the last six hours. I will check it after this press conference perhaps I can tell you more [about transfers] in the next press conference.”
It would be foolish to assume Leeds aren’t looking at any transfer business in the final week of the window. But it’s alarming that nothing seems very close right now.
A deal for Iheanacho looked close a week or so ago. Now though, it looks like the race for his signature is wide open again.
