Leeds United fans have been waiting patiently for their club to make a new signing in 2025. Now after 24 days of the winter window, it looks like the wait might soon be over.

Leeds United’s January transfer window has certainly been a quiet one. So far, there’s only been outgoings at Elland Road with Joel Gelhardt and Charlie Crew sealing loan exits.

Whilst there’s been plenty of players linked with Leeds United, none have come close to joining the club. Daniel Farke and co seem to be more than content with their current options, though a new striker and/or a centre-back seem like positions that certainly needs bolstering.

There’s been a number of strikers linked, too. Mergim Berisha has been linked with Leeds for some time, whilst St Gallen’s Willem Geubbels has been mentioned more recently.

Another name linked in the last week or so is Kelechi Iheanacho. The former Manchester City man has been struggling for form at Sevilla since his summer move from Leicester City on a free transfer.

Leeds United are set to sign Kelechi Iheanacho

Iheanacho has been tipped to leave Sevilla after failing to score in nine La Liga outings since arriving in the summer. Manager Garcia Pimienta has confirmed that Sevilla have received offers for Iheanacho, who’s thought to have interest from teams across Europe.

Leeds are one team mentioned alongside the 28-year-old former Manchester City man. Now, an emerging report from Nigerian outlet SCORENigeria claim that Leeds are signing Iheanacho, though whether it’s a loan or permanent deal remains to be seen.

It comes after reports revealed Sevilla are about to sign Iheanacho’s Nigerian comrade Jerome Akor from Montpellier.

Daniel Farke’s Joel Piroe verdict could indicate big role for Kelechi Iheanacho

Iheanacho will arrive at Elland Road with bags of experience behind him. In 232 games for Leicester City, Iheanacho scored 61 goals, with an incredible 34 assists in that time as well.

Before that he’d netted 21 goals in 64 games for Manchester City, so Leeds are certainly signing a proven striker if the above report is to be believed.

And for Farke, Iheanacho could soon become a starting player. Joel Piroe has given some mixed performances in the 2024/25 season and Iheanacho could offer something a bit different.

Speaking previously, Farke highlighted Piroe’s lack of pace, saying: “We won’t make him a lightening quick player or an unbelievably mobile player,” whereas Iheanacho always had a burst of speed.

If Leeds kickstart their January transfer window with the signing of Iheanacho then it would be an exciting start. More is needed though, in particular a new centre-back.
