Daniel Farke’s Leeds United got back to winning ways on Sunday, thumping Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Elland Road to reclaim the top spot over their Steel City neighbours Sheffield United.
Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, and Ao Tanaka were all on target as Leeds United picked up their first win of 2025. And it was a win that saw them leapfrog Sheffield United who’d beaten Norwich City on the Saturday.
Whilst a good win for the Whites, there remains a lot of worry among supporters about the state of the play in the transfer market. Leeds are yet to sign a single player despite being linked with many.
For Daniel Farke, a couple of problem positions appear to be at centre-back and up front. Leeds are light in both positions and to make matters worse, the likes of Pascal Struijk and Patrick Bamford are injured too.
A handful of strikers are linked with moves to Elland Road right now. One who could soon be on the move is Kelechi Iheanacho.

Kelechi Iheanacho told he can leave Sevilla amid Leeds United rumours
Speaking to Spanish outlet Eldesmarque, Sevilla boss García Pimienta has been discussing Iheanacho’s situation at the club. It was recently revealed that Leeds United have an interest in Iheanacho who’s failed to kick on in Spain following summer move from Leicester City.
Pimienta has now opened the door for Iheanacho to leave the club in January, saying: “He’s just another player and if I think that the best thing for the team is for Kelechi Iheanacho to play, he will do it… I don’t know the reason, but there are players who fit in better in one environment than in another.
“For whatever reason, he hasn’t performed at the level we expected. But I’m sure that he might do so elsewhere, because I see him training and I see the quality he has.”
Pimienta then discussed media speculation that Iheanacho is currently overweight, hence his poor performances for Sevilla in this 2024/25 season. He’s so far played nine times in La Liga without scoring or claiming an assist.
But Pimienta has ruled out the rumours. He added: “He is at his weight. In that sense we are very strict. I don’t know about this week that he has not trained for a while, but this time he has been.”

Latest on Leeds United’s striker search including Emmanuel Latte Lath and more
Iheanacho’s links to Elland Road definitely suggest that Farke is keen on signing another striker, despite the German previously saying that he doesn’t feel there’s a need to add anymore forwards in January.
Other strikers linked include Emmanuel Latte Lath and Mergim Berisha. But Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sell Latte Lath to MLS side Atlanta United, whilst Berisha remains in limbo at Hoffenheim.
The latest on that front is that more clubs are joining the race for Berisha, with Union Berlin and former club Augsburg now keen, along with Leeds.
The Whites return to Championship action on Wednesday night with Farke welcoming former club Norwich City to Elland Road.
