Less than four weeks separate Leeds United from the January transfer window and Daniel Farke was asked about next month’s market once again during Thursday’s press conference.
Leeds‘ squad looks pretty well-balanced. The Whites have three decent goalkeepers, a defence that has clocked up 10 clean sheets from 18 Championship games and five central midfielders when all are fit.
Not even including Charlie Crew. Four Premier League-standard wingers and four top-quality strikers, though Joe Gelhardt is keen on leaving in January with the player playing just three times this term.
But Leeds do lack cover in the no.10 role for Brenden Aaronson, while Leeds have been linked with a new striker in Dor Turgeman. Now, Daniel Farke might require a new left-back during the winter window.

Daniel Farke asked if he could perform u-turn ahead of January
Last week, Farke said he was expecting a quiet January. That is despite Graham Smyth predicting Leeds to move for a new no.10 having missed out on one in the summer, but a new position is becoming an issue.
Junior Firpo is out of contract and has picked up a knock, while Sam Byram is missing on Saturday. Both Isaac Schmidt and Max Wober have undergone surgery this season and a new left-back may be needed.
Farke was asked if he could go back on his early prediction of a quiet window, and said that it is difficult to rule anything out – having not expected to have such a busy summer window at the start of 2024-25.
“No [not ruling it out]. I’m long enough in this business to know that strange things can happen and you can never rule things out. Like the summer, I didn’t expect so many signings – it wasn’t the plan,” he said.
“I don’t want to talk to about it too much as we have eight games until then. Potentially, some injuries of key players and what are we like in each position. If you ask me now though, I don’t expect signings.”
What do Leeds need to do in the transfer window next month?
Farke may expect a quiet window as things stand, but the German must be reminded about the last winter window. Leeds made one signing, it saw The Whites fall behind Leicester and certainly, Ipswich.
Kieran McKenna’s men made crucial additions at the halfway stage that gave them the tools to go again in the second half of the season, and it left Leeds in the play-offs. Leeds cannot make the same mistake.
The Whites sit third again after 18 games like last season, on 35 points again. They are only three behind Sheffield United, and new signings could give them that fire power to go again during the league run-in.
A no.10 and competition for Aaronson is key with the USA star struggling for form in the last few weeks. Long-term, a new left-back may be required if Firpo goes but a new striker might just keep Leeds going.
