Leeds United and Premier League rivals West Ham and Fulham are all queuing up to sign a Serie A striker this summer, but he could now, in turn, seal a surprise move to South America.

Leeds United, West Ham and Fulham have been involved in a number of transfer headlines so far this summer, the main one being that Leeds United are trying to sign Rodrigo Muniz from Fulham.

The Cottagers are holding out for a staggering £50m fee for the striker, whilst Leeds have already seen a £26m bid rejected for Muniz. Meanwhile, West Ham recently signed Leeds United target Kyle Walker-Peters on a free transfer following his release by Southampton.

Now, the Premier League trio are understood to be chasing a deal for Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi. Reports this week have revealed how Leeds United are interested in signing Taremi who looks set to leave Inter Milan, after scoring just three goals in 43 total games last season.

Leeds United target Mehdi Taremi could seal surprise South America transfer

The latest on Taremi’s future comes from Italian outlet Gazzetta. They have confirmed the surprising news that Taremi is now a target for Colombian side Botafogo, managed by previous Leeds United manager target Davide Ancelotti, with his side in talks with the agents of Taremi.

They write that the Brazilian side could offer up to €9m (£7.84m) for Taremi, who has been given extra time off from pre-season training. The same report confirms that West Ham, Fulham and Leeds United are fans of the 33-year-old striker Taremi, who was initially reluctant to consider options outside of Europe, though Gazzetta state that he could now be open to a move to Botafogo, who won the league and Libertadores double in the 2024-25 season.

Iranian international Taremi has 55 goals in 94 games for his country. Previously he scored 91 in 182 games for Porto.

Mehdi Taremi could be a pawn in Rodrigo Muniz to Leeds United

Reports this week have revealed that Muniz is Leeds United’s top striker target this summer. Whilst signing the 23-year-old could prove very costly for the 49ers, it looks like they’re going to do all they can to bring him to Elland Road.

However, it is understood that Fulham want to sign another striker before selling Muniz this summer. So for Leeds United, it might be in their best interests if Taremi actually snubs a move to Botafogo and joins Fulham instead. That in turn could free up Muniz for a move to West Yorkshire and give Daniel Farke his key striker target for this summer.

There is no doubt that Leeds need perhaps two or more new striker signings this summer after it was revealed that Patrick Bamford has been told he can leave the club this summer, whilst Mateo Joseph has handed in a transfer request, leaving just Joel Piroe and new signing Lukas Nmecha as Farke’s current striking options.
