Daniel Farke’s no.1 striker target at Leeds United is finally named, but he’ll cost a pretty penny

Despite a strong flurry of transfer activity at Leeds United in the last week, there remains a bit of a void up top. Expect to see the club spend big on a new striker this summer.

In the last week, Leeds United have completed deals to sign Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach. The pair bolster the midfield department, following their combined £30m arrivals from Newcastle United and Hoffenheim respectively, giving Daniel Farke a strong-looking central pairing going into next season.

And the German already has a strong-looking defence following the arrivals of Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson. So expect attentions to shift more towards the final third of the pitch, with reports that Leeds want a new winger, a new 10 and a new striker before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1st.

Up top, Patrick Bamford has been told he can leave Leeds United this summer. There is also growing uncertainty over Mateo Joseph’s future after the striker handed in a transfer request at Leeds United earlier this month.

Rodrigo Muniz is the man who Leeds United want this summer

There have been a handful of strikers linked with a move to Leeds United so far this summer, but few seem like really active targets. Though The Athletic now state that Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz is Leeds United’s ‘top striker target’ this summer.

He was first linked with a move to Elland Road earlier this summer, though it looked like an ambitious move from the start with reports that Fulham want £50m to sell Muniz this summer.

Soon after, reports stated that Leeds United had seen a £26m bid rejected for Muniz, though it’s understood that since then, Leeds have made progress on a deal for Muniz and now The Athletic reiterate the fact that the 23-year-old is a key target for Leeds United this summer. Their report goes on to add that ‘there will be alternatives if the Muniz chase is derailed’.

Who are the Rodrigo Muniz alternatives for Leeds United?

One key target for Leeds this summer appears to be Josh Sargent. Sargent played under Farke at Norwich City in the past, and recent reports have revealed how Sargent’s move to Wolfsburg has fallen through.

He was set for a return to Germany, per reports, until pulling out of the deal. In turn, he could once again become a key target for Leeds, especially with Fulham holding firm on their lofty valuation of Muniz.

Elsewhere, Callum Wilson is hoping to secure a Leeds deal this summer, or so it’s been reported. He’s now a free agent and it’s claimed that he wants to be handed a pay-as-you-play deal at Elland Road this summer, though how likely that is remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin continue to be linked, though he has interest from multiple other clubs too.

Muniz certainly seems like the best available option right now. But he’s by far the most expensive too.
