26-year-old has not played a single minute since snubbing Leeds United in January

Leeds United missed out on a few players during the January transfer window.

Daniel Farke always said it would be a quiet month and it did turn out that way as only one signing was made, with Connor Roberts eventually joining on loan from Burnley on deadline day.

Right-back was the key priority for Farke but there were also other positions being looked at. Leeds tried and failed to sign another central defender, while a creative left-footed right winger was on the agenda.

Having been beaten to the signing of David Brooks by Southampton, Burnley’s Manuel Benson was the other option on the list. At one stage, Leeds were said to be really pushing to make it happen.

Ultimately, however, Benson ended up going no where. He snubbed the likes of Leeds and Middlesbrough in order to stay at Turf Moor and fight for his place, but that’s not looking like the best of decisions.

Benson may live to regret snubbing Leeds

Benson was left out of Burnley’s squad to face Manchester City on the penultimate day of the transfer window as a result of the speculation that was surrounding his future.

The 26-year-old may have hoped the end of the window would provide him with a fresh start at Burnley, though that has not been the case at all.

He was left out of the squad completely for the 2-2 draw with Fulham at the beginning of the month, before then being name as an unused substitute at Liverpool on Saturday.

Burnley have a vast amount of wingers in their squad and so it is going to take some serious performances on the training pitch for him to play as much as he wants.

From Leeds’ perspective, missing out on Benson may have actually been a blessing in disguise with Willy Gnonto now somewhere close to his best again, and Dan James back from injury.
