Leeds United may have received a boost in the hunt for one of their potential transfer targets tonight.
The Whites are yet to make a single signing so far in the January window and have just over 24 hours left in order to do so, with the clock now firmly against them.
There is a full calendar of Premier League fixtures taking place over the course of this midweek, and it has helped provide a good idea on Leeds’ chances of signing some of their top targets.
Leeds had been heavily pushing for a deal to sign Ben Godfrey earlier this week but he played 90 minutes for just the second time this season in the league for Everton last night, a good indicator he is still part of their plans.
However, using that same logic, Leeds could take encouragement in the fact Manuel Benson has been left out completely of Burnley’s squad for the trip to Manchester City tonight.
Leeds handed potential Benson boost
Just 24 hours ago, it was reported that Benson had held talks with manager Vincent Kompany over his future and had made the decision to stay at Turf Moor for the rest of the season.
That said, just a matter of hours earlier, Kompany had spoke publicly on how he would respect the wishes of some of his fringe players if they wanted to leave for more game time. Benson and another Leeds target in Connor Roberts were the men in question.
Of course, there is a chance that Benson has just picked up a late injury in training that Kompany opted against disclosing, but it is certainly interesting to see him left out after reports yesterday.
Leeds had been in the hunt to sign Benson alongside Southampton, but they are no longer in the race after bringing in David Brooks from Bournemouth.
Leeds were pushing to sign Benson just last week and so after his latest snub from the squad, it will be interesting to see if they revisit it tomorrow.
