Premier League manager suggests two of his players could leave after links to Leeds United

Leeds United remain on the hunt for new signings with just over 48 hours to go until the window closes.

The Whites are yet to make a single signing so far this month but are in need of some additions, with the Premier League loan market primarily where they have been focusing on.

Leeds have been patient so far in waiting for some of their top targets to become available but it is a strategy that is about to be put to the test given how little time there is remaining.

Two of the players to have been linked with a move to Leeds over the last few weeks are Burnley duo Manuel Benson and Connor Roberts, and Vincent Kompany has today provided a new update on their situations.

Kompany was speaking to the Burnley Express in his pre-Manchester City press conference and when asked about the future of the Leeds-linked duo, admitted they have to ‘respect’ if a player wants to leave and play regularly.

“I’m definitely not against keeping the group together because they’re all lads that I’ve come to know and have done everything that I’ve asked them to do.

“There’s not even a thought on my part that these guys have to go. The only thing is that some players, and it’s easy for you to look at the list of players that haven’t played as much, they have a desire to play and we have to respect that as well.

“From my side, the only thing I want is a group for the next 17 games that wants to go really hard and just focus on the one and only thing that matters now and that’s keeping this club in the Premier League.”

Having played a key role in Burnley’s Championship title winning campaign last season, Benson has played just 73 minutes of Premier League football so far this season. Roberts, meanwhile, has played a little more, but has not started since October.

Both players would be good additions for Leeds this month and there is now a clear passage for a deal to be done for Benson, after Southampton instead opted to move for David Brooks.

Roberts is also attracting interest from clubs other than Leeds, but is reportedly open to a move to Elland Road, to link up with some of his Wales international teammates.
