Angus Kinnear now shares how Leeds will approach January transfer window

Angus Kinnear has claimed that loans will make up the base of Leeds United’s January transfer strategy.

Kinnear was speaking at a September Supporter Advisory meeting, via Leeds Live, where the minutes taken from the meeting share what the Whites chief spoke about regarding transfers in the winter.

Leeds made nine new signings in the summer with squad depth currently looking as strong as it ever has, with two viable options for almost every position.

For the first time in a while, Leeds now finally have several options in central midfield, though the number 10 position still looks as if it could do with another body, amid their failed pursuit of Nadiem Amiri.

Leeds also have significant strength in numbers at the back, but could be left a little short at left-back if both Junior Firpo and Sam Byram pick up injuries, which is not beyond the realms of possibilities.

Kinnear says loans will form Leeds January strategy

If injury was to strike the squad between now and the January window, Leeds will be ready to act, with loan deals expected to be what they will look at.

The minutes said: “Mark Roberts (an attendee) brought up the expectations of the board when Daniel Farke was appointed. These were discussed with Daniel, and it was felt he was the right person for the job, but he needs time.

“Also, discussion about funds, if needed in January, due to injury, will be available. The greater value in January will be from the loan market, [and] have deliberately kept two loan spots free.”

Leeds brought in Joe Rodon, Djed Spence and Jaidon Anthony on loan during the summer, meaning they still have two spots free for January, which they are said to have done intentionally.

The club’s use of the loan market in the summer can be considered exceptional, with Rodon having made a big impact at the back, and Anthony also looking a real player.

Spence, meanwhile, has been restricted to just 10 minutes of action so far due to injury, but once he returns, he will be a huge player for Leeds.
