Leeds United now have just a week to conduct any remaining transfer business this month.
The Whites are yet to bring in any new reinforcements during the January transfer window but still have a few positions which require strengthening for their promotion push.
Defence very much is the priority for Daniel Farke’s side with Archie Gray having picked up an injury last night, Pascal Struijk taking longer to recover than expected and Charlie Cresswell likely to depart.
However, it would appear Leeds are making the most progress on an attacking signing, which again, is needed after Dan James had to be substituted in the win over Norwich City due to an issue with his hip flexor. It is uncertain at this stage how long he will be out.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leeds held new talks with Burnley yesterday over the signing of Manuel Benson and are continuing to push to get it over the line.
Leeds pushing for Benson deal
News of Leeds’ interest in Benson first broke last week, though competition is set to be stiff for his signature with fellow promotion hopefuls Southampton also interested.
In fact, it was reported that Benson is actually keen on a move to the Saints, though due to strained off-field relations between the two clubs, it makes a deal difficult.
That could therefore allow Leeds to swoop in and front the queue for the 26-year-old attacker, who scored 12 goals in Burnley’s promotion winning campaign last season.
Leeds are in need of a new right-footed left-winger to add balance to their squad, and based on his past performances in the division, he would be ideal for Farke’s side.
Hopefully Benson is one of a few deals Leeds are able to get over the line in the next seven days, as they look to sustain the promotion push.
