Leeds United appear to be on the lookout for another creative attacking player before the end of the window.
The Whites’ attacking options are among the best in the league but if there is one profile missing from the squad, it is a left-footed winger who prefers playing off the right-hand-side.
Bournemouth’s David Brooks is a player who has been mentioned as a possible target, but there is a new – perhaps more exciting name – to add to the list from earlier today.
It has been reported that Leeds are now pushing to sign Burnley attacker Manuel Benson as a replacement for Wilfried Gnonto, who the Whites are said to be expecting to move to West Ham.
Leeds have identified Benson as a priority before the end of the window, with talks underway for a player who tore the Championship apart at Burnley last season, in their title winning campaign.
Leeds target Benson a Championship long-shot specialist
After arriving from Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2022, Benson established himself as one of the division’s best players, netting 12 goals in 33 appearances.
Four of those strikes came in consecutive matches towards the end of the campaign, one of which included the winner at bitter rivals Blackburn Rovers to clinch the title.
But what was impressive about this run of goals was how each of them were almost identical. He would receive the ball on the right, cut inside onto his left and from around the edge of the area, curl a shot into the top corner.
Following a large spending spree from Burnley in the summer, Benson just has not been handed the chance to replicate that form this season. He has played just four times, with only one coming from the start. 73 minutes in total.
Benson would be the perfect player for Leeds to bring in at this stage of the season and hopefully they can get it done, without having to move on Gnonto.
