Leeds United are now ‘moving’ to sign Burnley winger Manuel Benson this month as a possible replacement for Willy Gnonto, who is expected to join West Ham – according to Sacha Tavolieri.
Gnonto, 20, had been linked with a move to West Ham earlier this month and now the Belgian reporter claims the Italy star is expected to join the Hammers before the deadline. He is lacking in game time.
Dan James and Cree Summerville have been in superb form and continue to be Daniel Farke‘s options out wide. With Euro 2024 on the horizon, Gnonto had been linked with a move for more game time.
He could now be off to London with David Moyes’ side, and Leeds have identified Benson as the man to replace Gnonto – as per Tavolieri. A player compared to Arjen Robben, by old teammate Nathan Tella.
Benson’s game time has been even less than Gnonto, managing just five outings this season. But a player that starred in last season’s Championship, having a hand in 18 goals in 37 games for Burnley.

The Belgium U21 man has been linked with a move this month and now it appears he could replace Gnonto at Elland Road, in the Championship. It is unclear if a move will be on loan, or permanently.
Leeds do of course have options out wide and should Gnonto leave, it would not be an immediate impact on the starting XI. But should an injury to James or Summerville occur, cover is then short-lived.
Jaidon Anthony remains on loan from Bournemouth and Ian Poveda is a back-up option, with his deal set to expire in the summer. Gnonto will need replacing and Benson would be a wonderful addition.
