Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has delivered an immediate update on the status of Archie Gray after he was substituted during injury time on Wednesday night – and it is positive news on Gray.
The 17-year-old sparkled on the right of defence once again as Leeds rallied to hold off David Wagner’s Norwich side, winning 1-0. Patrick Bamford scored the only goal of the game in the first half for us.
A gorgeous header after a wonderful cross from Dan James. The latter went off injured at half time and it looks like he could be set for a spell on the sidelines. A big blow to Leeds given his current displays.
But for Gray, the news is much more positive. Gray was taken out as Leeds countered in injury time and with Sam Byram about to replace Cree Summerville, Farke made the decision to replace Gray instead.
Speaking after the match in his press conference as per Leeds Live, the Leeds gaffer said that he was “concerned” about Gray to begin with but after closer inspection – the boss is “carefully optimistic”.
“Archie, I was concerned because a hit against his knee and he overstretched it. He was panicking. First assessment, carefully optimistic. Seems like ligaments should be okay, just a hit and over-stretching.”

Leeds need Gray fit, without a doubt. The versatile teen is one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment and without him, the side is a whole lot weaker. Perhaps, he should be rested on Saturday.
At least, to give him the full chance to recover with The FA Cup coming into play. A chance for Jamie Shackleton to shine. But also, another sign that Leeds need to sign a right-back before the deadline.
Nevertheless, a crucial win that sees Leeds close the gap on Ipswich to just two points – having played a game extra. Norwich boss Wagner was very impressed with the team his side came up against, tonight.
