Leeds United now want to sign PL defender who absolutely loves playing alongside Joe Rodon

Following Djed Spence’s return to Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United are now a man light at right-back.

While Daniel Farke said in his press conference yesterday that Leeds are in no rush to replace him, it would be crazy from the club to leave themselves weaker at the end of the window, than what they started it.

It was actually Leeds’ decision to cut short Spence’s time at the club, something which caught Spurs chiefs by surprise given he was just starting to find his rhythm at Elland Road.

However, Leeds now need to move on from that quickly and they have already been linked with a potential replacement, with Burnley defender Connor Roberts reportedly on the radar.

Should he make the move across the Pennines, Roberts would become the fourth Wales international in Leeds’ squad. He also played alongside both Joe Rodon and Dan James at Swansea City, and is a particularly big fan of the former.

Roberts past comments on Leeds defender Rodon

When together with Rodon in South Wales, the Leeds centre-back was a target for Tottenham Hotspur at the time, a club he ended up joining for around £11 million on October 16, 2020.

However, less than two weeks earlier, Roberts did an interview with BBC Sport while the pair were both on international duty with Wales. The 28-year-old spoke of how much he did not want to see Rodon leave, so they could continue playing alongside each other.

He said: “I don’t want him to go anywhere. I was with him on deadline day [Monday] and chilling with him. I was asking what the crack is. He was just thinking about the next game, we are playing England for Wales and that is all that is in his head.”

Roberts is an experienced player at this level and has experience of being a key player in a promotion winning side, having been named in the Championship TOTS last year following Burnley’s title winning campaign.

However, the chemistry he quite clearly has with Rodon through their several appearances for club and country together, could also be another plus point to Leeds signing him.

With Rodon at right centre-back, and Roberts just outside of him, the two players would have an instant understanding, which can only be beneficial for Leeds.
