Leeds United’s decision to end Djed Spence’s loan spell early was certainly a shock to supporters.
The Whites confirmed the news in a statement yesterday evening with it actually Leeds’ decision to do so, rather than Tottenham Hotspur requesting an early recall.
Daniel Farke explained the reasons behind the decision in his press conference earlier this afternoon, initially suggesting there wasn’t much to read into it, before then hinting at some potential attitude problems.
Aside from an incredible season at Nottingham Forest, his attitude has unfortunately been a problem throughout his career, none more so than his former Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock.
But with that said, according to the Daily Mail, Leeds’ decision to send him back to North London came as a surprise to Spurs chiefs, and are set to immediately make him available for transfer.
Spurs chiefs shocked by Leeds’ Spence decision
After picking up a knee injury just a matter of weeks after joining, Spence had just began to find a bit of rhythm at Leeds, making five consecutive starts up until the New Year’s Day win over Birmingham City.
The majority of those had even come out of position at left-back, producing a really impressive performance against Ipswich Town.

Spence also won praise during the defeat to West Brom, which was actually the only game for Leeds in which he played in his natural position at right-back.
It is a real shame to see how Spence’s time at the club has ended as he could’ve really been a huge asset in the second half of the season, but it is pretty telling that Spurs are looking to move him straight on.
Hopefully Leeds are able to find themselves a replacement before the end of the month so they do not leave themselves weaker than they were at the start of the window.
