Leeds United are always going to be fielding interest in their players due to the amount of young talent in the squad.

The Whites have one of the youngest squads in the Championship and the spine of the team is very much built around players who are below the age of 25.

Although they lost most of their first team squad in the summer, Leeds were also knocking back offers for plenty of other players. Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter were all said to have been the subject of bids above £20 million.

Of that trio, Gnonto was the only one who took exception to Leeds’ decision to keep him by looking to force through a move, but he finally looks as though he has overcome that summer debacle.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast, Phil Hay says ‘plenty of clubs’ are still interested in Gnonto, but getting to the Premier League with Leeds would be the best move for him.

Hay says Gnonto attracting plenty of interest

He said: “You do have a very talented winger there who you can make a lot of, and I can’t help feeling if Leeds get promoted and he gets to the Premier League with Leeds, that seems as good a move as he’s going to get anywhere else unless I am misreading the interest in him. There are plenty of clubs who like him.”

Gnonto endured a very tough first half of the season at Elland Road as a result of his antics in the summer, and ability to break into the starting XI due to the form of others.

But a recent injury to Dan James has opened the door for him in recent weeks and it is fair to say he has walked right through it, having scored four goals in his last four starts.

The 20-year-old’s confidence levels are looking sky high and he finally looks somewhere close to the player he was last season, which is a menace for anyone in this division.

Leeds are also confident of tying him to a new deal and it finally feels like Gnonto can look forward again a white shirt rather than backwards.
