Leeds United potential record transfer in jeopardy as Everton and West Ham ask about £40m star

If Leeds United are promoted this season then we may well see the club smash their transfer record in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Leeds United’s record signing remains Georginio Rutter who joined from Hoffenheim in a £35.5million deal in January 2023.

He later left for Brighton in a £40million deal and became the club’s third-most expensive player sale of all time.

This summer, if Leeds United are promoted then we could see a lot of money spent at Elland Road with the 49ers now in place, and with the Premier League looking as competitive as ever.

And for Daniel Farke, strikers could be the main area of focus. Already ahead of the summer, Leeds United are linked with several strikers, with options currently very thin on the ground right now.

Names like Norwich City striker Josh Sargent is mentioned, and he thinks he can outscore Joel Piroe in the Championship this season.

Another name mentioned, and one with Premier League and international pedigree too is Roma frontman Tammy Abraham, who’s currently on loan at AC Milan this season.

Leeds United suffer early blow in race to sign Tammy Abraham

Leeds United are interested in Abraham who looks set for a summer move away from Roma, with AC Milan uninterested in signing the former Chelsea man on a permanent deal at the end of this season. So far for the Rossoneri, Abraham has scored twice in 21 Serie A outings.

But in what is surely bad news for Leeds United, TeamTalk are now reporting that Everton and West Ham are interested in Abraham, and that both clubs have ‘asked for preliminary information’ on a possible summer swoop for the 27-year-old.

The same report from TeamTalk also confirms that Roma are ready to cash in on Abraham with suggestions that the striker will cost as much as £40million this summer, and that the 11-cap former England man is open to a Premier League return.

Tammy Abraham breaks silence on future in Italy

Despite reports that Abraham is ready to make his return to England, the striker himself has suggested that he’s ready to stay in Italy, despite facing an uncertain future with Roma.

Speaking recently, Abraham broke his silence on his future amid this emerging interest from Leeds United and more, saying: “People are realising that there is more to it than just being in your comfort zone. What brings so many players from England to Serie A is that they are no longer afraid.

“People want to try something different. There is no better place than Italy to learn the culture and football.”

Abraham added: “I’m a winner, I want to win. I believe you only live once, so always enjoy your time, try to play with a smile on your face. I’m living my dream.”

What he really wants remains to be seen. But there’s no doubting that he’ll likely have options to return to England in the summer and it could be Leeds who are ready to break the bank on the signing.

It’d be an exciting capture for the Whites who’d be getting a Premier League-proven striker, albeit for a club record fee, and a striker who may yet have his best years ahead of him at 27 years old.
