Joel Piroe certainly has his critics at Leeds United. But the Dutchman is once again providing the goods for Daniel Farke.
Joel Piroe has now surpassed his tally of 14 Championship goals last season, scoring his 15th in Leeds United’s 3-1 win at Sheffield United in February.
The Dutchman is now the joint-leading scorer in the Championship with Norwich City’s Borja Sainz and Piroe is also the player with the most goal contributions in the Championship this season (21, with six assists).
Despite often coming under scrutiny from Leeds United fans, Piroe is proving clinical in front of goal yet again. And it’s a good job too because Daniel Farke remains extremely light on no.9 options right now.
Ahead of the summer transfer window, Leeds United are linked with several strikers, including some potentially very exciting names too in the likes of Tammy Abraham and more.
Another name mentioned is Josh Sargent. Farke originally brought the USMNT strike to Carrow Road in 2021 and reports ahead of the summer have revealed that Sargent is a target for Leeds United.

Josh Sargent eyeing Championship Golden Boot amid links to Leeds United
The Norwich City frontman has been in fine form of late. Sargent scored a brace against Stoke City at the end of February to take his season tally to 11 goals in 21 league appearances, along with five assists. Currently, the 25-year-old ranks joint-sixth among the league’s top scorers this season.
Speaking to Pink Un, Sargent has been talking about his chances of winning the Golden Boot this season, and he’s backing himself to eventually beat the likes of teammate Sainz and Piroe to the accolade.
Sargent said: “Numbers are looking good at the moment, so I’m happy. I think coming into this season, I had very high standards for myself. I definitely wanted to be in the race for top goal scorer.
“Unfortunately, you know, with another injury, I had a bit of a setback. But very happy with how I responded, and I just want to keep it going now. I just want us to keep putting together results and make a good push for the play-offs because I do think we’re good enough.
“I need to just stay focused on what’s put me in those positions to score, not getting too lazy, keeping working hard for the team, and getting in the right spots to score goals.”

Leeds United handed Josh Sargent transfer warning
Farke brought Sargent to Norwich City in an £8million transfer from Werder Bremen, and he remains under contract at Carrow Road until the summer of 2028.
Speaking recently, BBC pundit Chris Goreham has suggested it would need a massive bid from Leeds United to sign Sargent in the summer.
Sargent though is at a good age; he’s yet to come into the prime years of his career and he’s already banging in the goals, and if Norwich fail to earn promotion this season and Leeds do earn promotion, then a reunion with Farke in the Premier League could be a very attractive proposition for Sargent.
If Sargent can also outscore Piroe this season then it’ll certainly do his chances of a big summer move no harm.
