England reject and £60m flop… Assessing the four new strikers on Leeds United’s transfer radar

Leeds United face a busy summer transfer window, and once again it could be attacking reinforcements that is the main aim for Daniel Farke.

In the last two transfer windows now, Leeds United have focussed mainly on attacking signings. But in the January transfer window just gone, Leeds failed to make a single first-team signing.

Albeit, Leeds United were linked with a number of players during the winter window with many of them being no.9s, or attacking players in general.

Now with the summer transfer widow fast approaching and Leeds United looking set for a return to the Premier League, reports are linking a number of players with summer moves to Elland Road.

Here we assess the four latest striker targets for Leeds United ahead of the summer…

Wilson Isidor – Sunderland

Sunderland have only just signed Wilson Isidor on a permanent deal from Zenit, with the Frenchman having been on loan beforehand. But already there’s interest in the impressive striker.

Isidor scored in Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat against Leeds United earlier in the month, turning Ethan Ampadu with ease before finishing off the post.

Now it’s being claimed that Leeds United have shortlisted Isidor ahead of the summer transfer window. Subsequent reports also claimed that Spurs and Crystal Palace like Isidor and so there seems to be a lot interest mounting quickly.

Sunderland paid £5million for Isidor who is keen to stay at Sunderland for the long run. Whilst not a totally impossible signing for Leeds, it looks like this one could prove very costly for a player who, on the whole, lacks experience of English football, and completely lacks any Premier League experience.

Tammy Abraham – Roma

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could be returning to England this summer with reported interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Also, it’s been claimed that Leeds United are interested in Abraham who’s currently on loan at AC Milan from Roma, where he’s scored twice in 20 Serie A games so far this season.

Carlton Palmer has backed Leeds United to afford Abraham who he thinks could be available for between £30million and £40million, also suggesting that Leeds’ high-paid players means a deal for the £92k-a-week Abraham could be plausible.

A very fresh link, Abraham to Elland Road doesn’t seem all that impossible, though promotion would certainly be the minimum requirement to tempt him to West Yorkshire.

But Abraham would surely relish the chance to rediscover himself in England after his 2022 omission from Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad, having not played for his country since early 2022.

Josh Sargent – Norwich City

Once again, Norwich City striker Josh Sargent is a target for Farke. The Whites were linked last summer and now, ahead of the next summer transfer window, it’s claimed that Leeds United are interested in Sargent.

Of all the links, Sargent might be the most realistic given the Farke/Norwich City link, and given the fact that Norwich City will likely be a Championship team again next season, barring a late push for the top six.

Having been with Norwich City since 2021, it could be time for a new challenge for Sargent. And the USMNT star is certainly making a case for a big move with 11 goals and five assists in 20 Championship games this season, with Sargent scoring a screamer against Stoke City over the weekend.

At 25 years old too, now could be the perfect time for Sargent to join someone like Leeds United and retest himself in the top league.

Rasmus Hojlund – Manchester United

Of all the four names linked, Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United the most ambitious, and seemingly he most unlikely to happen as well.

It’s been claimed that Leeds United have an interest in Hojlund as his Manchester United woes continue, following his reported £72million move from Atalanta in 2023.

Since then the Danish striker has scored just 23 goals in 76 games for the Red Devils. This season has been a struggle for him and his team once again with the 22-year-old having scored just twice in 21 Premier League games for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Speaking recently, journalist Be Jacobs played down Leeds United’s rumoured interest in Hojlund, stating that the striker wants to stay at Old Trafford for some years to come.

On the whole, Hojlund to Elland Road seems like a non-starter.
