Leeds United have another name on their transfer radar ahead of the January window opening in a few days. And it’s a name that Leeds fans might remember from before.

Leeds United have a growing list of names they’re potentially keen on signing during the January transfer window.

Despite Daniel Farke playing down the chances of Leeds signing many players in January, it looks like the Whites could actually be quite busy.

That, or Leeds could just spend big on a one or two players, with names linked Manchester City’s James McAtee linked with a January move, as well as Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher.

Leeds’ interest in Kelleher comes amid reported interest in Illan Meslier. It’s claimed that Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on Meslier ahead of January.

The Frenchman was in action for Leeds United on Boxing Day, with Meslier earning praise for a crucial save in the win against Stoke City as Leeds returned to the top of the Championship table.

Leeds United reignite interest in Noel Tornqvist, he could replace Illan Meslier in January

Now, there’s another potential Meslier replacement on Leeds’ radar in Swedish shot-stopper Noel Tornqvist.

An emerging report from Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt states that Leeds United have a ‘serious interest’ in Mjällby AIF goalkeeper Tornqvist, 22, who was linked with a move to Elland Road back in 2023.

The same report adds that Mjällby value Tornqvist at just €1.3m (£1.1m) with the club’s sporting director also confirming interest in the goalkeeper, who’s kept seven clean sheets in 29 appearances this season.

Mjällby sporting director Hasse Larsson said: “The only thing I can comment on is that we know there is interest.”

The latest on Caoimhin Kelleher and why Noel Tornqvist could be Leeds United’s man

Links to Kelleher have gotten Leeds fans very excited, with Meslier still a very divisive figure among fans despite his match-changing moment against Stoke City on Thursday night.

But Kelleher would be a very expensive capture for Leeds. There’s also his wages to consider. Tornqvist though would cost Leeds just over £1million, which is very affordable to the 49ers and Leeds United, and his wages would surely be a whole lot smaller than Kelleher’s.

Kelleher obviously has the experience, though. And Leeds have been handed a boost with Kelleher tipped to move to the Championship. It seems unlikely that Leeds will sign Kelleher when they still have Meslier though, so there’s a few moving parts to consider.

Right now, a January move for Tornqvist certainly seems more doable, and more likely.
