Leeds United fans may be disappointed to know that a recently rumoured January transfer might be well out of their club’s range.

Leeds United certainly look set to do business in the January transfer window, despite Daniel Farke suggesting that Leeds will be quiet in January.

There’s been some exciting names linked with moves to Elland Road and Farke may well need one or two new signings, with several of his players having attracted some serious interest.

There’s growing interest in Illan Meslier for one. It’s reported that Arsenal are interested in Meslier who’s also had longer-term links to Ligue 1 Rennes.

Meslier has been hit and miss for Leeds this season with fans very much divided over whether or not he remains the long-term answer in goal.

But one very exciting potential replacement has been touted in Liverpool no.2 Caoimhin Kelleher who finally looks set to leave Anfield in 2025.

For Leeds, though, Kelleher may be someone who’s just out of their price range for the time being.

Transfer expert rates chances of Leeds signing Caoimhin Kelleher

Speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has discussed Kelleher’s current situation and the chances that he might move to Elland Road at some point in 2025.

Bailey explained: “Kelleher is going to be very expensive. Last year he was linked with Celtic, but even Celtic are out of the equation.

“If you sold Meslier, he would be in the mix but a lot of teams will be after Kelleher. I imagine Leeds will be doing their homework on some goalkeepers if Meslier leaves and Kelleher will be one of them.

“He’s concentrating on Liverpool until the summer and then he will have his pick of clubs, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he tries to push through a move to Celtic.

“Does he choose Forest, Fulham, a mid-table Premier League team – or Champions League with Celtic?”

The eight-figure fee that Leeds United could get for Illan Meslier

Meslier is certainly one who looks as though he could leave Leeds in January, and one who’ll definitely move on if the club fails to achieve promotion this season.

And for the Whites, Meslier leaving could net them a decent sum. It’s recently been claimed that Rennes are ready to spend £15million on Meslier who they’ve been keen to sign for a while now.

For Leeds, that money could be pumped straight back into the market on a goalkeeper like Kelleher. Though it’s Kelleher’s wages that might be a deciding factor, and like Bailey says, a move to Celtic could be more likely given the fact that he’d be playing Champions League football.
