Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz has been a serious target for Leeds United for much of the summer transfer window.

A modern-day type of number-nine, it’s easy to see why Leeds United are keen to sign someone of Rodrigo Muniz’s profile. However, players of his calibre are always going to have other suitors.

Despite the addition of Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe’s golden boot award last season, Leeds want another number nine and it’s become abundantly clear that Muniz is Leeds’ top striker target this summer transfer window.

Leeds have been met with competition in the race in the last day, with Newcastle United said to have joined the Muniz race as Alexander Isak’s future remains up in the air.

Atalanta join Leeds and Newcastle in the Rodrigo Muniz race

It’s likely that a club-record fee from Leeds is required to sign Muniz and the club were said to have made positive progress on a deal for Muniz in recent weeks, in spite of nothing concrete materialising.

Others have also claimed lately that Muniz to Leeds is now accelerating and that the 49ers believe they will strike a deal for Muniz with Fulham at some stage over the coming weeks.

It’s been reported previously weeks ago that Leeds made a second Muniz bid after an initial £32 million package was rejected as their opening bid.

It’s now reported that the second bid from Leeds for Muniz is still on the table without an answer from Fulham, which is why there has been no tangible progress made.

Worse still, Newcastle aren’t the only competitor weighing up the Brazilian striker. Serie A side Atalanta BC are also considering a move for the striker if they fail to sign Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

That comes via BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella. He claims that there is a busy striker market that Mateta and Muniz could both become wrapped up in this summer.

The remarkable data behind Rodrigo Muniz’s 2024/25 season

Irrespective of the interest, Marco Silva’s side simply haven’t been budging over Muniz. That’s in spite of the fact that other strikers have been linked to Fulham to replace Muniz in recent weeks and months.

Elsewhere, it has been confirmed that Fulham are planning for Muniz’s departure. However, it’s clear to see why they are keen to retain the services of the 24-year-old, whose recent record highlights a player perhaps starting to peak.

Per DataMB on Twitter/X, Muniz’s record for Premier League strikers’ goals per 90 in 2024/25 is a remarkable 0.63, which places him just behind Isak and is why Muniz has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland.
