What Leeds United’s stance is on Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz after having bid rejected

Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz continues to be a player spoken about in conjunction with Leeds United currently.

The reality for Leeds United is relegation without a Premier League proven striker to spearhead their survival tilt and they have settled on Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz as their preference.

Talk of Leeds’ interest has been present for some time now, but nothing concrete has materialised as Leeds have been prioritising other areas of their squad in the transfer market.

The need for more attacking depth and quality is growing, however, because three of the four signings so far have been defenders. Leeds need plenty of additions over the next month to be ready for the Everton fixture.

Leeds plot their next move for Rodrigo Muniz privately

It’s fair to assume that Muniz’s exit appears to be edging closer despite Fulham’s lofty £50 million valuation of Muniz.

Even if it ends up being less than that, which is likely, it is also plausible that a club-record fee from Leeds is required to sign Muniz this summer.

It’s been reported that Leeds are readying a second Muniz bid after an initial £32 million package was rejected. However, the same report states Newcastle United are interested in the striker as well.

That doesn’t appear to have come to fruition, but Leeds are privately plotting their next moves for Muniz, as confirmed by Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post.

He wrote: “The YEP understands from other sources that the public nature of the Whites’ pursuit of [Anton] Stach has not been helpful for the smoothest of negotiating processes with Hoffenheim.

“Hope remains though. Similarly, they have not abandoned their belief that a deal can be struck with Fulham for Rodrigo Muniz.”

There has been other movement at Fulham which may be beneficial to Leeds, as Ricardo Pepi could be a Muniz replacement while two other strikers have been linked to Fulham to replace Muniz in recent weeks.

Fulham have been planning for life post-Muniz for a while now, with Leeds’ interest simply not going away.

Why exactly Leeds are so desperate to sign Rodrigo Muniz

He started just eight league games for the Cottagers in 2024/25, with Marco Silva opting for more experience in attack. However, when he did play, Muniz’s form had him compared with Erling Haaland.

Given that he has just one year remaining on his contract, and that he has been second-choice behind Raul Jimenez, it’s no great surprise that Leeds are keen to make him their main man in attack.

His goal-to-minute ratio is remarkable, however, and it’s clear to see why there is mounting interest in the 24-year-old striker, as the Whites also face stiff competition with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly in for Muniz as well.

He scores goals but also links play well, which is why Leeds like Muniz as an all-round package for the striker role of the modern era.
