Sheffield United and Leeds United have already been involved in a number of transfer battles this summer.
First, the Blades were able to persuade Jamie Shackleton to turn down a new deal at Elland Road in favour of a move to South Yorkshire.
However, the blow of losing Shackleton was softened considerably by Leeds’ £5 million deal to sign Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United, bringing in arguably the best right-back in the division from a promotion rival.
Sheffield United have certainly had the better of it since then, though, by winning the race to sign former Coventry City midfielder Callum O’Hare on a free.
After an enquiry from Leeds earlier in the summer, Chris Wilder has also managed to beat off competition to sign Alfie Gilchrist on a season-long-loan from Chelsea.
Fresh update in race to sign Jesurun Rak-Sakyi
With just over three weeks of the window remaining, it would not be a surprise if there were a couple more transfer battles between the two clubs to come yet.
Leeds remain in the market for another three players, while Sheffield United are also likely to be active right until the very end.
And there is already another player the two clubs are competing for this week which is Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
Leeds, Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers are among the sides battling it out for the 21-year-old, and according to journalist Edmund Brack, it is Bramall Lane where he is ‘leaning’ towards.
Rak-Sakyi, who was the subject of a £12m permanent bid from Southampton, is expected to make a decision on his future this week and with Sheffield United having made a strong play in the last 48 hours, it seems to be doing the trick at this stage.
If Leeds do have genuine hopes of signing Rak-Sakyi this summer, it would appear they have plenty of work to do.
Leeds seem to be prioritising Jonathan Rowe
Though there is no question Leeds are in the race for Rak-Sakyi, it does not look like he is actually their main target to replace Crysencio Summerville.
Instead, that accolade actually falls at the door of Norwich City star Jonathan Rowe, with talks continuing between the two clubs over a deal.
Leeds are said to have made an initial £7 million offer on Monday and Pink Un journalist Connor Southwell would not be surprised if there was movement before the weekend.
That said, Leeds will have to be careful as if they do miss out on Rowe, Rak-Sakyi may well be gone before they can even make a second play.
