Leeds United’s pursuit of Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe seems to have gone quiet in the last 48 hours.

News of Leeds‘ interest in the Canaries star became public knowledge on Monday but since then, the Whites have been doing their work in silence.

Leeds are said to have earmarked Rowe as their number one target to replace Crysencio Summerville, who moved to West Ham United for a fee in excess of £25 million over the weekend.

Rowe is on a list of targets that also features Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, though it is the former who Leeds are prioritising at this stage.

Leeds made an initial £7 million offer for Rowe while several clubs across the Championship including Sheffield United and QPR push for Rak-Sakyi.

Norwich journalist shares Rowe update

Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton mentioned a couple of reasons as to why a deal for Rowe could be difficult for Leeds to pull off.

They included the asking price, the fact Norwich have just sold key midfielder Gabriel Sara, and Leeds being a divisional rival.

However, Leeds showed with the signing of Joel Piroe from Swansea City 12 months ago that those are factors which can be overcome, particularly the latter.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘The Along Come Norwich Podcast‘, Pink Un journalist Connor Southwell was asked about the current state of play regarding transfers at Carrow Road.

Leeds’ interest in Rowe was first mentioned by the podcast host, to which Southwell responded by suggesting he would not be surprised if something major happened at Norwich before their season opener at Oxford United.

Tom said: “There hasn’t been any more rumours of anymore outbounds other than, there was a Leeds link, which I actually heard today laughed off by someone in terms of where that ITK came from.

“Apparently there has been some nonsense from that source before, but you wouldn’t rule anything out though? You were saying just before we pressed record there might be still just about something that shocks you before kick-off on Saturday?”

Southwell then replied: “Yeah quite probably, it wouldn’t surprise me. As you know when you do the job I do, it takes one message, one moment and everything changes. I never rule it out, it’s fair to say there’s quite a few plates spinning both inwards and outwards at the moment.”

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Leeds’ Rowe interest

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also shared an update of Leeds’ pursuit of Rowe earlier this week, in which his timescale over a move was similar.

Romano confirmed that Rowe is indeed one of the players’ on Leeds’ list to replace Summerville, and is expecting the Whites to bring someone in quickly.

He said: “Yeah, he’s a possibility. It’s true that his name is one of the ones they are considering internally. At the moment, I’m told that still nothing is close to being done, but it’s a concrete possibility. For sure, they will replace Summerville.

“They are assessing all the options, but I think Leeds will be quite fast on this one, also because they made good money with Summerville and also with Archie Gray, so they have some money to invest, and they will surely do that.”
