Leeds United should try to sign £2m Championship left-back if move for Hugo Bueno falls through

Leeds United’s interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Huge Bueno is clear evidence they are in the market for a new left-back.

Daniel Farke claimed last month that full-back is one of two positions he is keen to strengthen before the end of the window, though did not specify which side.

Junior Firpo and Jayden Bogle are set to head into the season as the first choice pairing, leaving Sam Byram as the only recognised senior cover.

Byram is more than capable of filling in on either side but a couple of injuries at the same time would leave Farke desperately short.

With that in mind, it is no surprise to see they have registered an interest in signing Bueno, though it certainly looks like it could be a difficult deal to do.

Cameron Pring could provide Leeds suitable Bueno alternative

Leeds are interested in signing Bueno on loan for the season but face stiff competition from Feyenoord, who are looking to get a deal done this week.

One major factor that makes Premier League loan deals difficult for Leeds is their inability to guarantee game time, which is the main thing clubs look for.

Firpo will be first choice for however long he is fit and so Leeds need to be on the lookout for a player who would, perhaps, be happy to come in and be second choice.

Said player would certainly get plenty of first team opportunities if Firpo’s injury record is anything to go by, and one they should be looking at to come in and do the job is Cameron Pring.

Pring is currently at Bristol City and was very much a regular for the Robins last season, making 42 Championship appearances, 39 of which came from the start.

At 26, Pring would bring Championship experience to Leeds’ squad at a cost well within their budget, with former Whites midfielder Carlton Palmer suggesting back in January he is worth around the £2 million mark.

Though not quite at the level of Firpo, Pring has a decent assist record at this level, having provided 10 in 116 appearances.

Pring is also versatile in that he can play as both a wing-back and central defender, too. He is the sort of signing you would file under sensible business.

What other left-backs have Leeds been linked with?

Aside from Bueno, the only other left-back Leeds have really been linked with is AC Milan’s Fode Ballo-Toure, with Watford also said to be keen.

AC are very keen to get rid of Ballo-Toure this summer as he does not feature as part of their plans, meaning a deal could be there to do on the cheap.

Having said that, he is likely to want to move to a club where he would be playing regularly, following a difficult time in Milan, and a poor loan spell at Fulham.
