Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has been recognised for his achievement in steering his side to a win over Wolves by being named Premier League manager of the week.

Having named midfielder Anton Stach in his Premier League team of the week, former Newcastle United forward Alan Shearer has now recognised Daniel Farke after guiding Leeds to a comfortable 3-1 win at Molineux.

The win over Wolves was a welcome boost for Farke, as three of his new signings scored their first goal for Leeds in a dominant away performance.

Farke had endured a frustrating period as Leeds manager. He was left short in attack as the club missed out on a move for Harry Wilson before Leeds endured a heartbreaking defeat against Fulham.

The Leeds boss has faced speculation over his future in recent weeks, but the hierarchy at the club should pay attention to the recognition for Farke as the Whites continued their impressive start to the season.

Daniel Farke deserves recognition at Leeds United

Speaking to the Premier League website, Shearer praised Farke for masterminding Leeds’ win over Wolves, stating: “In what was a huge match against a team close to them in the table, Farke masterminded a superb 3-1 win against Wolves for Leeds’ first away win of the season.”

The win means Leeds have now claimed seven points from five games, going stride-for-stride with Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the 2020/21 season, and Farke’s side do not look out of place in the top flight.

For some reason, Farke has never received the same level of adulation as his enigmatic Argentinian predecessor, despite his impressive achievements at the club.

This has been accompanied by an undercurrent of persistent speculation that Leeds could replace Farke at the first sign of trouble.

Jose Mourinho was recently mooted as a potential option to take over at Leeds, and there were suggestions before that Farke may be replaced before the Premier League season kicked off.

However, Farke has earned his chance to lead the club in the Premier League. Paraag Marathe and the club’s leadership should take note of this recognition after an impressive start to the year.

Daniel Farke’s record compares well with Leeds United giants

Ultimately, Farke’s legacy at Leeds will be determined by their performance this season. If he can steer his side to Premier League safety, he can rightly be compared to the most successful managers in the club’s history.

As things stand, Farke’s record compares well with the greatest Leeds managers. According to the statistics maintained by LUFCData, Farke has the best win percentage of any Leeds manager in league fixtures, having won 58 of 97 games, at a success rate of 59.8%.

RankNameLeague Games ManagedWinsWin %
1Daniel Farke975859.8
2Don Revie55529352.8
3David O’Leary1457551.7
4Gary McAllister381950
5Simon Grayson1457249.7
6Marcelo Bielsa1567648.7

The legendary Don Revie is second on the list, with a win percentage of 52.8% ahead of David O’Leary, who won 51.7% of his league games with the Whites. Bielsa sits sixth on the list, with a win percentage of 48.7% in the league.

Farke’s task is about more than just taking Leeds out of the Championship. He is tasked with turning Leeds back into a regular fixture in the top flight after a long period in the wilderness.

This win percentage will almost certainly dip now that Leeds face stronger opposition each week. However, having taken Leeds this far, he deserves the chance to prove that he belongs in the exalted company he currently keeps.
