Leeds United have a monumental summer transfer window lying ahead. Get things wrong and they surely come crashing back down to the Championship.
Leeds United look set to spend big this summer. The owners are desperate for the club to now stabilise in the Premier League, with the 49ers wanting Leeds United to finish inside the top eight within five years.
Daniel Farke looks set to be the man to lead Leeds United into the Premier League. At least for the time being after reports claimed Farke would be staying at Leeds United going into the summer, after it was suggested that he could be sacked.
Already, Leeds United have a summer transfer plan in place. But the club is losing CEO Angus Kinnear who’s leaving for Everton this summer. Kinnear could also take football adviser Nick Hammond and recruitment figure Gary Penrice with him as well.
Everything seems a little bit too up in the air at Leeds United right now, and their latest plans for recruitment this summer don’t sound all that convincing.

Four Leeds United figures will play key roles in recruitment this summer
With several names leaving the club’s boardroom this summer, and currently no indication that they’ll be replaced either, it leaves the club’s recruitment process seemingly open to interpretation. But an emerging report from The Athletic has detailed how Leeds United will go about recruitment this summer. Also detailing who will front the recruitment.
Beren Cross writes that chairman Paraag Marathe, along with chief strategy officer Robbie Evans, head of football operations Adam Underwood, and Farke ‘will be key voices when it comes to ins and outs this summer’, adding that the use of data will play a critical role in the recruitment process too.
The same report also reiterated the fact that Farke is the club’s manager, not the head coach. Farke ‘has the final sign-off on all transfers in and out’ adds Cross in his report.

Jamie Carragher’s early warning to Leeds United could quickly come true
There certainly seems to be a sense of unease behind the scenes at Leeds United right now. If not unease then surely an air of being unprepared, given the boardroom changes and the latest Farke speculation, which the club hasn’t officially responded to either.
And having no one person at the top of the recruitment process; a director of football for example, could already put Leeds United behind their Premier League counterparts ahead of next season.
Speaking recently, Jamie Carragher spoke about promoted teams and how they often struggle, whereas the established teams all have one thing in common: stability behind the scenes, specifically mentioning directors of football as key components to teams’ success in the Premier League.
Leeds United have none of that right now, and Farke signing off all the transfers could be a worry for some as he’s a coach at the end of the day, not exactly a recruitment specialist, although to his defence, this season’s signings were key.
Whether he can replicate this season’s success in the top flight remains very much open for debate.
