Insider shares the 49ers’ five-year plan for Leeds United amid reports that Daniel Farke could be sacked

Despite earning promotion on Monday, it’s now being claimed that Leeds United could sack manager Daniel Farke this summer.

Daniel Farke has certainly had his critics at Leeds United. Just a few weeks ago he watched as his side dropped down into 3rd place of the Championship table, and it looked like Leeds United were falling apart once again.

But on Easter Monday Leeds United secured promotion to the Premier League in what is Farke’s second season at Elland Road. His Leeds side and Burnley will now battle it out for the Championship title with two games to spare.

After losing the Championship play-off final to Southampton last season it looked like this season would’ve been Farke’s last chance: if he hadn’t had gotten Leeds promoted then it would surely have been time.

However, reports on Wednesday revealed how Leeds United are considering sacking Farke despite promotion, amid concerns about his record in the Premier League.

Leeds United want a top eight finish in the Premier League within five years

Getting out of the Championship is the first part of the 49ers‘ grand plan for Leeds United. Now it’s about staying out of the Championship, and pushing on in the Premier League. But not only do the 49ers want to stabilise Leeds in the top flight, they want more. They want to challenge for the European places within the next five years.

Speaking to Leeds United News, insider Graeme Bailey explained: “Leeds don’t want to be in the Championship at any point in the near future. Whereas arguably, a Burnley, a Sheffield United if they go up, I think they would both, no to do them a disservice, if they had another yo-yo- season, it wouldn’t be the end of the world for them.

“It’s a different situation for Leeds United. Leeds United are here to really do what Newcastle did last time they came back up. In the next five years Leeds want to be in the top eight. They’re not coming up to go straight back down.”

What is Daniel Farke’s record managing in the Premier League?

It’s understandable that the 49ers would, not necessarily sack Farke straight away, but take stock ahead of the summer transfer window. And they’d want to do it sooner rather than later to allow a potential new manager to get settled and whatnot.

And in the 49ers’ defence, Farke’s record in the Premier League is rather woeful. He has just six wins from 49 games in the top flight, all as manager of Norwich City who admittedly never had the resources that Leeds United would have this time round.

But Norwich spent their share of money in the Premier League under Farke, and each time the Canaries came crashing back down. Although sacking Farke would be incredibly harsh, it could be a shrewd business decision with the long-term in mind.
