Leeds United are reportedly considering sacking Daniel Farke and know what type of manager they would want to replace him.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who report on Wednesday that Leeds United are ‘considering making a stunning managerial change’ just after securing promotion.
Daniel Farke led Leeds back to the Premier League on Easter Monday after his side destroyed Stoke City 6-0 and Sheffield United were defeated by Burnley.
There have been wild celebrations in Leeds in the days since but with attentions now turning to the future, Farke’s capability of keeping Leeds in the Premier League has been questioned in some corners.
According to the Mail, that includes Leeds owners, 49ers Enterprises, who ‘harbour reservations’ that Farke can secure top-flight survival given his previous record in the division.
It’s added that ‘no decision’ has been made yet, with the owners fully aware that such a ‘controversial move’ could ‘backfire’, especially with fans.
However, it’s claimed the club are examining candidates and know the profile of the replacement they would want – someone like Adoni Iraola.

49ers want a manager like Andoni Iraola to replace Daniel Farke
The report goes on to mention that Jose Mourinho has been touted for the job, with Darren Bent claiming he would love the role.
However, it’s explained that Leeds would instead want to find a ‘lesser-known name’ after the success of Andoni Iraola, who Leeds wanted to hire before settling on Farke, at Bournemouth.
Iraola has been a revelation at the Cherries, who could qualify for Europe this season, and has been labelled as ‘elite’, according to TeamTalk, as he’s being touted for the Tottenham job this summer.
The Mail adds that Leeds are ‘unlikely to pull the trigger’ on sacking Farke unless they find a replacement that they ‘firmly believe will be a success.’
Should Leeds United sack Daniel Farke?
As cruel and harsh as it would be to sack a manager just after he’s achieved his aim, there is a logic to the decision that is hard to deny.
Farke has managed just six wins in 49 Premier League games, being relegated in his one full campaign and then sacked by Norwich City 11 games into his second.
The likes of Michael Brown and Gabby Agbonlahor have suggested this week that Leeds may have to consider sacking him, a notion Simon Grayson doesn’t agree with.
Meanwhile, Simon Jordan believes Farke was set up to fail at Norwich due to the club’s lack of investment in the team.
Leeds will earn a massive windfall upon promotion but it will still take a lot of money to compete in the first division, with Jordan believing a minimum of £50m-60m will have to be spent on transfers.
Thankfully, early reports suggest Leeds are planning to spend £100m in the summer but it’s not yet clear who will be in charge to benefit.
