Michael Brown has suggested Leeds United may have to ‘consider’ sacking Daniel Farke despite him securing Premier League promotion.

Leeds United are back in the Premier League after a glorious Easter Monday of celebration at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side slammed Stoke City for six, with Joel Piroe grabbing goals on his own, to put Leeds on the cusp of promotion.

Leeds’ return to the top flight was confirmed a couple of hours later when Burnley defeated Sheffield United 2-1 to ensure they both will finish in the top two.

There were wild scenes outside of Elland Road as fans gathered to celebrate, while Farke, his squad and coaching staff, along with their families and friends, gathered inside to party together.

It was a long-overdue day of celebration for Leeds, which made it difficult for Michael Brown when he suggested the club might have to move on from Farke ahead of next season.

Michael Brown suggests Leeds may have to sack Daniel Farke

Speaking on Sky Sports after promotion was confirmed, Brown discussed how the manager has performed this season under some difficult circumstances.

He said:  “I feel some of the supporters like some of the decisions he was making.

“Whether the changes, constantly chopping and changing three or four different players. The style at times being a little more patient rather than more direct.

“I think it’s a difficult crowd at times when you’re not winning every single week. That’ll be the difficult thing for him in the Premier League.

“I think he’s done an unbelievable job.”

However, he then cast doubt on whether the German will still be in charge on the first day of next season.

He continued: “I think watch this space with him in what will be the next decision with the football club.

“Will he be rewarded with a new contract? Will we see something different? I think we have to consider that now because of what we’ve witnessed and where the club might be.

“It’s hard to say that today on a day of celebration but we have to realise he might not be for the Premier League.”

When Brown says ‘what we’ve witnessed’, he’s referring to the struggles the three promoted clubs from last season have endured this year, with Leicester City and Southampton already relegated and Ipswich Town almost certainly following them.

Should Leeds United sack Daniel Farke before next season?

As logical as sacking the manager and aiming for one with more Premier League pedigree might be, it’s a decision completely void of human emotion that will only bring negativity to the club.

Sacking him now, at a time when he has achieved his goal, would be a big blow to morale and disrupt a harmonious squad ahead of a big campaign.

Farke has earned the right to take his side to the top flight and prove he is capable of managing at the highest level. He has shown he can bounce back from disappointment, manage expectations and create a team with a winning mentality.

Leeds have collected 184 points over two seasons and could get to the magic 100 mark this year if they win their last two fixtures.

That’s not to say he should be handed a new deal, though. Farke is a sublime Championship manager, securing three promotions and possessing the second-best points per game average, but his Premier League record is not good.

Farke has won just six games out of 49 in the top flight. He was relegated in 2019-20 after guiding Norwich City up and then sacked 11 games into his next Premier League campaign in 2021-22 after taking the Canaries back to the big time once again.

Leeds should be diligent and prepare for things not going well but sacking Farke now would be callous.
