Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich delighted for Leeds United ‘legend’ as promotion secured

This Leeds United side under Daniel Farke is incredibly likeable. The promotion party has seen Largie Ramazani wearing sunglasses and dancing and Patrick Bamford starting a Chris Wilder chant.

Everywhere you look, there are reasons to love each Leeds player. Jayden Bogle turned prime Dani Alves in the second half of the season while Joe Rodon continued to put his head where it hurts, in every game.

On Easter Monday, Rodon was bloody-nosed while barking instructions at some oncoming Leeds subs. Ethan Ampadu is captain material, Ao Tanaka is always smiling and Dan James could be the league’s best.

Willy Gnonto is another who falls under the likeable category at Leeds. Aside from always having a smile on his face, Gnonto was seen on the Elland Road pitch scoring goals into an empty net with light fading.

Willy Gnonto posts on Instagram as Leeds secure promotion

It was another topsy-turvy season for Gnonto. He began the campaign as the main man, replacing that aura lost with Leeds forced into selling both Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter in the summer.

But he lost his place in the side with James fit again, only to come back into the side recently with James suffering a hamstring injury. He headed home Leeds’ sixth against Stoke, his seventh of the campaign.

Like every other Leeds player, Gnonto took to Instagram after the club’s celebrations following promotion being secured. Gnonto posted a four-word message to Leeds fans on Instagram: “We are going home.”

A likeable character in the eyes of supporters despite his antics at the start of the 2023-24 season in which he refused to play for Leeds in three games, Gnonto is clearly also well-liked by his teammates.

Gnonto has now been at Leeds for three years. He has experienced the Marcelo Bielsa-era squad, the change to Daniel Farke’s squad and both Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich commented on his post.

Gnonto is likely to remain in the starting line-up when Leeds go to Bristol City next Monday. Leeds will want to finish with a Championship trophy, as manager Farke eyes a third Championship career title.
