Leeds United’s squad were in fully party mode after The Whites were promoted to the Premier League at the second time of asking on Easter Monday, under Daniel Farke.

The German gaffer has guided Leeds back into the top tier after missing out last season, losing in the play-off final at Wembley. A 6-0 win over Stoke City piled the pressure on Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.

Sheffield United had to match Leeds’ result to prevent The Whites from being promoted on the day. But Chris Wilder’s side suffered a 2-1 loss to Burnley, which sees Leeds and Burnley securing the top two.

Daniel Farke said he would be a “fire beast” during celebrations, while many Leeds players were spotted with bottles of champagne on Monday evening. Willy Gnonto though, celebrated in a different manner.

Willy Gnonto spotted scoring goals on Elland Road pitch

Jermaine Beckford and Michael Bridges were itching to join the celebrations but the Leeds icons were working on LUTV’s promotion show, while the Leeds squad were letting their hair down at Elland Road.

While broadcasting on YouTube, Beckford and Bridges spotted Gnonto on the Elland Road pitch with a ball. Elland Road lights dimmed and the sun almost down, Gnonto was seen kicking a ball into the goal.

Michael Bridges first spotted Gnonto, and said: “I’m just watching Willy Gnonto run around the ground by himself, it’s brilliant,” before Beckford continued: “He’s found a football, he’s getting his friend to cross it.”

Laughing as he narrated what Gnonto was doing, Beckford continued: “His friend is crossing it in for him and scoring a goal. He’s just scored, running off to the corner in an empty stadium. How good is that.”

What happens next for Leeds United with two games left to play

Gnonto’s Leeds remain on course to win 100 points and go up as Champions of England’s second tier. It would be Farke’s third Championship title, if The Whites can see off the challenge of Burnley this season.

Bristol City at Elland Road is next up for Leeds, before going to Plymouth on May 3. Both sides are still fighting for something, with Liam Manning’s Robins in with a shout of qualifying for the play-offs.

Plymouth meanwhile, managed to beat Frank Lampard’s Coventry on Monday and are three points away from safety with two games to play. Argyle will likely need to win both games to be able to survive.

Leeds then, will have to be at their best to be able to go and win the Championship title. But the most-important job is done, Leeds have finished in the top two and that is what Farke and Leeds needed to do.
