Leeds United one step closer to free agent signing as player chooses the Premier League

Leeds United could soon have their first summer signing in the bag, and it’d be a very impressive one too.

Leeds United need a big summer transfer window. They need to sign a number of new players to bolster their squad with both depth and quality ahead of what promises to be a gruelling 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Already it’s been revealed that the 49ers have a summer transfer plan for the club. And manager Daniel Farke has already demanded that he’s backed in the summer transfer window too.

But Leeds United aren’t helped by the fact that they have a pretty uncertain boardroom right now. Angus Kinnear is leaving for Everton and he could yet take Nick Hammond and Gary Penrice with him.

So for chairman Paraag Marathe, there’s a lot of moving parts. But he and Farke and whoever else is involved in transfers will surely have clocked the latest on Fenerbahce winger Bright Osayi-Samuel, who’s been tipped to move to Elland Road for some time now.

Last summer, Leeds United bid £7m to sign Osayi-Samuel from Fenerbahce. He’s out of contract this summer and Leeds have kept tabs on the Nigerian international. But Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce had offered Osayi-Samuel a new deal, and the player himself said he wasn’t sure where his future lied.

But fresh claims from Turkey have revealed the outcome. Aksam report that Osayi-Samuel has rejected Fenerbahce’s approaches three times and that he’s now poised to leave the club as a free agent this summer. More importantly, the report reveals how Osayi-Samuel now wants a return to England.

Previous reports revealed how Osayi-Samuel will demand a salary of £2.1million-a-year from his next club. That’s just over £41k-a-week which would make him Leeds’ highest-paid player.

Bright Osayi-Samuel’s 24/25 stats vs Jayden Bogle’s at Leeds United

Leeds United have a standout player on the right-side of defence in Jayden Bogle. The £5m summer signing from Sheffield United was arguably Leeds’ best signing that summer and he’ll no doubt be right in Farke’s thinking for next season.

But he certainly needs competition on that flank and Osayi-Samuel would provide that. Bogle though has completely outshone Osayi-Samuel this season, stats-wise anyway.

Osayi-Samuel has only started 13 league games this season. But still, to have only created one big chance all season, with no goals or assists, is alarming.

Mourinho seemed desperate to keep him though and that probably speaks volumes about his quality. For Leeds United, there’s no doubt that Osayi-Samuel on a free transfer could be a very shrewd signing.
