Wilfried Gnonto has been back at Leeds United since day one of pre-season, working as hard as ever according to Daniel Farke.
As was expected after Leeds‘ play-off final defeat to Southampton in May, Gnonto has once again been repeatedly linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer.
Having failed with four separate offers 12 months ago, Everton are once again back in contention for his signature, as they look to bring in another winger.
Though Everton are yet to make a formal approach, they are confident they can get a deal done this time around.
Ultimately, however, it is going to come down to whether Everton can meet Leeds’ asking price. As shown with Crysencio Summerville, they aren’t in the business of accepting any cut-price deals.
Leeds social media activity tells its own Gnonto story
Ever since reports of Everton’s new interest surfaced in Gnonto, it has been claimed that the 20-year-old is keen on leaving Leeds for Merseyside.
Of course, the lure of Premier League football is always going to interest a player like Gnonto plying his trade in the Championship, but there is certainly no indication he will be forcing his way out.
And Leeds’ recent social media activity ever since the players returned from their summer breaks is certainly not reflective of someone desperate to leave.
Gnonto has been front and centre of a lot of Leeds’ content across their channels, none more so than on Friday evening in another of his personal training ground battles with Mateo Joseph and Harry Gray.
The three attackers were all taking part in a little crossbar challenge against one another in which Gnonto was successful, before sprinting half of the length of the pitch celebrating.
The 20-year-old also did something similar in a shooting drill against the same two players on Tuesday and was front and centre of the new away kit launch, too.
Journalists covering the camp have reported of how lively Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have been out in Germany, with the Italian even videoed shadow boxing against Summerville in the post-match recovery session.
Of course, things are always going on behind-the-scenes in the world of football, but Gnonto certainly looks happy where he currently is.
What Farke has said about Gnonto’s future at Leeds
Regardless of the content Leeds put out over the summer, there is always the chance a side comes in, matches the valuation, and Gnonto goes.
Farke admitted as such in his post-match interview against Hannover, but did also speak of how well he has applied himself throughout pre-season so far.
He said: “Yes, in football you can never rule out anything, so all is possible. For that I can’t give any guarantees as I am not a magician. I can just judge what I see and both are fully integrated.
“They are fun to be here, they work hard, even today was a game the opponent tried to set some signs and the first target is always Summerville or Gnonto with many tackles.
“It showed maturity the way they handled it and how they kept going to bring themselves into good shape. So for that I just can judge what I see, I see hard work and commitment, great attitude and for that I am more than hopeful they chip in with top performances like last season.”
