Leeds United have officially launched their new away kit for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
In what has been a long time coming, Leeds have finally opted to go with the club’s traditional colours of yellow for the second strip after years of experimenting.
It is also takes on more of a retro theme due to the inclusion of the iconic smiley badge that represented Leeds between 1973 and 1981, with the kit very similar to that of the 73/74 season.
Adidas have previously implemented this style successfully at some of their biggest clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United, and so it is good to see Leeds being the beneficiary on this occasion.
The global sportswear brand has so far received a mixed response to its designs in years gone by but fans are pretty unanimous in how much they like this new strip.
Leeds include Wilfried Gnonto and Junior Firpo in kit launch
This time last year, Leeds were so unsure on who would be staying at the club, their kit launch video did not include any first team players.
Mateo Joseph, Darko Gyabi and Archie Gray, all of whom barely had a first team appearance between them, led the launch, but that is not the case this time around.
Joseph, Ethan Ampadu, Dan James, Joe Rodon and Georginio Rutter were all in there, but perhaps the most telling inclusions are Wilfried Gnonto and Junior Firpo.
Both Gnonto and Firpo have been linked with moves away this summer and so to see them front and centre of something like this is hopefully a sign they will be staying.
Firpo is wanted by former club Real Betis while Everton are once again growing in confidence they can complete a deal for Gnonto, having failed 12 months ago.
Crysencio Summerville was the Championship’s POTS in 23/24 but was not included, probably due to the speculation surrounding his future.
But clearly Leeds do not want to sell all of their key men and by including Gnonto and Firpo, it may be a sign they have a big role to play for the upcoming campaign.
Gnonto and Firpo could form Leeds’ left-hand-side
As mentioned, it is almost impossible to see Summerville staying this summer and there is reportedly an ‘understanding’ from all parties he will be on his way.
Leeds would then, of course, be in need of someone who could come in and fill that void left by the Dutchman on the left.
However, that man could be Gnonto. The 20-year-old was at his best for Leeds when playing in that position but was forced to be on the right last season as a result of Summerville’s form.
Gnonto and Firpo could form as formidable a partnership as what the latter did with Summerville last season.
