Willy Gnonto says 21-year-old Leeds player is basically impossible to tackle, he’s ‘incredible’

Leeds United have arguably the best set of attacking options in the Championship.

The Whites have three players already in double figures for goals, two more who are closing in, and the division’s leading assister in Georginio Rutter.

Willy Gnonto, Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Patrick Bamford has been Leeds‘ first choice front four in the last few weeks, but earlier in the campaign Joel Piroe and Dan James were starting.

Rutter and Summerville have been the only two guarantees in the attacking line-up, and it is fair to say they have formed an incredible partnership. Six of Rutter’s 15 assists have come for Summerville.

After a really difficult start to life at Leeds, it has been brilliant to see the real Rutter under Daniel Farke this season, with his personality shining through both on and off the pitch.

So many people have mentioned just what a character he is around the training ground, but what fans have ultimately really loved to see is his quality on the pitch.

Gnonto says ‘incredible’ Rutter is just impossible for defenders to tackle

As mentioned, Rutter leads the way for assists in the Championship this season, but it would be fair to say that it is his ball carrying that has really got fans off their seats this season.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast, Gnonto believes Rutter is so difficult for defenders to tackle at this level due to his combination of ability and power.

He said: “Honestly he is one of the funniest people I have ever met. Lots of energy every day, from the morning on the pitch always laughing and enjoying himself. I am really happy for him because I feel like he deserves it, everything he is doing now is incredible.

“I was there when he was a bit down, I know what he went through. Now seeing him smashing it, I am just proud of him because he is a good, funny guy who is always working hard. I feel like you need that type of character.

“He is a mix between technique and strength. He can go in duels, he can win and actually smash you. It is difficult to get the ball from him, I don’t actually know how you can. Some of his stuff is incredible, and him and Cree together are horrible for defenders.”

Rutter hopeful of being fit for Leeds’ trip to Watford

Leeds will be hoping that one of their key men in Rutter is fit for next Friday’s Easter trip to Watford, in what is the first match after the international break.

Rutter has had to undergo minor surgery on a hernia that has been impacting his performances for the last few weeks, but Leeds have viewed this as the perfect time for it to happen.

The timeline set by Leeds is 10 days which would be cutting it fine for the clash at Watford, but hopefully he is someone who can recover quickly.

Rutter himself provided a positive update on his Instagram story earlier this week, and with exactly seven days until the game, there is time for him to get back fit.
