Leeds United face AFC Bournemouth at Elland Road, which means a return for Tyler Adams, Adam Smith, and Lewis Cook.
The latter pair have already faced Leeds United since departing West Yorkshire many years ago now, but it’s Tyler Adams’ first return to Leeds since leaving for Bournemouth.
For the most part, Adams has impressed at Bournemouth since leaving Leeds in August 2023, providing he has been fit. The USMNT midfielder has had serious injury issues over the last couple of seasons.
It’s been well documented that Adams gave his verdict on Leeds fans in 2024. He said that he didn’t care what Leeds fans think of him and when things are going badly at Elland Road, it’s particularly bad.
Daniel Farke will certainly be hoping Leeds can replicate Farke’s last match against Bournemouth, ending in a 6-0 win for Norwich City in the second round of the Carabao Cup. That would show Adams what he is missing, too.
Tyler Adams’ Leeds United admission
Adams’ Bournemouth are backed to beat Leeds by Opta, while our predicted XI for Leeds against Bournemouth highlights that Leeds’ head coach has some big decisions to make potentially, not least in that midfield battle.
Bournemouth beat Leeds to Andoni Iraola as well, which adds an extra layer to this fixture. However, Adams’ most recent comments today may add a new dynamic to the fixture as well.
He was asked: “You strike me as the kind of character that would thrive off the challenge of going back to Elland Road. Of course, your first time going back there as well, so how much are you looking forward to that?”
Adams said: “Ah, I’m really looking forward to it. You know, I’ve said it since I’ve had the opportunity to play there that the environment there is is one of the best, if not the best that I’ve played in and the fans are just incredible.
“I created so many amazing relationships up north and I’m so thankful for my time there. And to be able to go back and and play against familiar faces, see familiar people, it’ll be an exciting time.”
Interviewer: “And it’ll be a good atmosphere as well.”
Adams added to that, explaining his one regret at Leeds regarding an injury and what could have been for him and Leeds in 2022/23: “Hope so. As always, it always is. I haven’t played one game there that wasn’t an amazing atmosphere.
“Yeah, so, so many ups and downs. You know, we started off the season fantastically that season and, you know, it being my first games in the Premier League, I was like, ‘Wow, this is what this is about. This is great.’
“And, you know, things change really quickly in this league and, unfortunately, I picked up an injury at the end of the season there and I wasn’t able to make that final push. I still think about it to this day.
Obviously, if I was able to play, you know, where the circumstances have been different in terms of trying to keep us up and alive, but that’s football. Things obviously change quickly.
“So, again, so many amazing memories there, so many amazing games, so many amazing friendships I created there. You know, Brenden Aaronson, one of my best friends, obviously still there as well.
“So, I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to play against him and see him. But, yeah, so many good memories from there.”
