Tyler Adams shares what he really thinks about Leeds United now and the club’s supporters

Tyler Adams has now delivered his verdict on Leeds United and the club’s supporters 12 months after leaving Elland Road following relegation from the Premier League.

The USA skipper was one of Jesse Marsch’s main signings in the summer of 2022, and one of a number of players that Marsch reunited with at Elland Road alongside Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober and others.

While the likes of Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Weston McKennie struggled at Elland Road, Adams was excellent. But the midfielder picked up an injury just after Marsch’s sacking in February 2023.

It saw the former Leipzig star miss the rest of the season and that played a large part in Leeds eventually suffering relegation to The Championship, where Daniel Farke currently resides with his Leeds side now.

Adams jumped ship instead of trying to help get Leeds back into the top tier, leaving at the first chance to join Bournemouth and has spent most of the 2023-24 season injured and playing only four times.

Adams shares verdict on Leeds and the club’s supporters

Angus Kinnear is renowned for saying he would not send Adams a Christmas card following his exit, with the midfielder clearly keen to leave Leeds and return to the Premier League as soon as possible.

While his move was needed in financial terms given Bournemouth paid £23m for the privilege, his desire to get out of Leeds after relegation was no different to the eight men that used Victor Orta’s loan clause.

Adams gave his verdict on Leeds to The Mail this week: “‘It was a no brainer [to join]. The truth? I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into. When things are going really, it’s amazing – best thing ever.

“But when things aren’t going well…, it’s a team and a city built off hard work, it’s blue-collar. I resonate with those fans unbelievably well – to this day. Whether they say they hate me or not, I couldn’t care less.”

Adams feelings are very mutual at Elland Road right now

Adams claims are mutually felt. Kinnear’s view on Adams and the rest of the Leeds players that left the club after playing a role in getting the club relegated are shared by fans, there is little affection there.

Leeds have since signed Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu and many are of the belief that the stand-in Leeds captain, as well as Bulgaria star Gruev, are better than Adams anyway albeit in The Championship.
