Former Manchester United goalkeeper Tim Howard has revealed how Tyler Adams will be feeling after he made his return to Leeds United with Bournemouth.

Tyler Adams left Leeds following their relegation to the Championship in 2023, having been brought to the club by former manager Jesse Marsch.

The USA international left the club in acrimonious circumstances, however, as a succession of players left Elland Road, joining his former Leeds teammate, Luis Sinisterra, at Bournemouth.

Adams spoke of his excitement to return to Leeds for the Premier League clash ahead of the game, but received a hostile reception from the Elland Road crowd, who booed his every touch of the ball in the pulsating 2-2 draw.

Now, former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard has admitted that Adams is unlikely to be worried about the reception he received at Elland Road, as Bournemouth scored a last-minute goal to rescue a point.

Tim Howard on Tyler Adams’ return to Elland Road

Speaking on the Unfiltered Soccer Podcast alongside co-host Landon Donovan, Howard explained why he believes Adams will not be worried by the reception he received at Leeds.

Howard experienced the full vitriol of the Leeds crowd during his time with arch-rivals Man United and believes Adams will have moved on quickly from the incident.

Howard said: “Well, listen, I tell you who doesn’t care about this, Tyler Adams couldn’t care less. Because he’s the boss, and by the way, as a former Manchester United player, the Leeds, Elland Road faithful are in short, interesting. Let’s say that.

“Look, a chief exec has a job to do. Angus Kinnear had a job to do. If you’re Tyler Adams, and or Sinisterra, and your team gets relegated, and you have an opportunity to play in the Premier League, you play in the Premier League.

“I don’t know what promises were made behind the scenes. And also like, that’s normal. That’s how it goes.

“I don’t expect players. I don’t like it when players down tools, like Isak did over the summer, but that’s kind of the way this is moving on the business side. I would imagine knowing Tyler Adams, he did things in the right way.”

What did Angus Kinnear say when Adams left Leeds United?

Adams left Leeds in a summer of upheaval at the club, as the incoming owners, the 49ers, and new manager Daniel Farke attempted to get to grips with a fluctuating playing squad.

Despite initial suggestions that Adams would remain and fight for promotion with Leeds, he ultimately left the club to return to the top flight with the Cherries.

Former Chief Executive Angus Kinnear appeared on the Square Ball and criticised Adams and Sinisterra for the manner of their exit, stating that neither player handled the situation “particularly well”.

Kinnear said: “However, I think there are ways you can handle your desire to play at the highest level. From a personal perspective, I don’t think either of those two players handled it particularly well.

“You need to approach it through discussion and trying to get to a mutual agreement… I don’t think it’s a way to behave towards a club that’s looked after you.”

Ultimately, Leeds replaced Adams with club captain Ethan Ampadu and, as things stand, few Leeds fans would swap the two, as Ampadu has established himself as a key figure at Elland Road.
