The song Leeds United fans sang to Tyler Adams while he was substituted during Bournemouth draw

Leeds United would have taken a draw against Bournemouth before the game, but will leave Elland Road feeling frustrated that they failed to hold onto a lead late on.

Teenage attacker Eli Junior Kroupi got the goal in the 93rd minute to silence the Elland Road crowd. The Whites had deserved to win, after Joe Rodon and Sean Longstaff put Daniel Farke’s side 2-1 in the lead.

Bournemouth have been excellent this season, going into the game in fourth place under gaffer Andoni Iraola and former Leeds player Tyler Adams. A player who left Elland Road in controversial circumstances.

Adams has given his verdict on Leeds fans since leaving, while the USA skipper also described Farke as a “great manager”. But Adams’ kind words did not mean he got a comfortable ride back at Elland Road.

What Leeds fans sang to Tyler Adams when he was subbed off

Adams has started all six Premier League games for Bournemouth this season, and had only been taken off once in his previous five, in the 88th match. On Saturday, Iraola removed Adams after 81 minutes.

Before the game, Adams’ name was read out and earned boos from supporters. But that was nothing compared to the song that Leeds fans sang when Adams was taken off by Iraola, with just under 10 to go.

The Athletic’s Beren Cross reported on X on Saturday afternoon: “The ultimate ending for the home fans as Adams is pulled early by Iraola. Sarcastic cheers all-round. “He’s had enough, he’s had enough.”

Andoni Iraola explains why he decided to take Adams off

Leeds fans will love it if Iraola admitted that the Leeds fans were the reason for his decision to take off the USA skipper. But it wasn’t the case according to Iraola, a manager Leeds were linked with hiring in 2023.

He was quoted by The Echo as saying: “I put him even defending as a centre back in the second half, but he finished also with cramps and he had to leave the game. He has played very well for me,” Iraola added.

“He has sustained our midfield in difficult duels, winning a lot of good balls, second balls. I suppose, also, I don’t know if the tension affects these things or not, but his performance from my side was very good.”

Leeds are next in action in a week’s time, which in itself is a culture shock after two years of playing twice a week in the Championship. The Whites host a Tottenham side who failed to beat Wolves on Saturday.
