Leeds United are taking on Bournemouth on Saturday in a Premier League fixture that has seen Tyler Adams return to Elland Road for the first time since he left the club.

It’s been a solid start to life in the Premier League for Leeds United, who picked up a massive 3-1 victory at fellow relegation candidates Wolves last Saturday.

Daniel Farke is hoping to build on the three points but has a much tougher task on his hands this weekend against Bournemouth.

The Cherries sit fourth in the table – on the same number of points as Arsenal and Tottenham – having lost just one game so far this season.

Andoni Iraola has honed a fantastic team on the south coast and Tyler Adams is an integral part of it.

The American midfielder is back at Leeds for the first time since his move from Elland Road to Bournemouth in 2023, and fans have not welcomed him back with open arms.

Leeds United fans give Tyler Adams a hostile reception

Leeds signed Adams for around £20m from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022 to replace Manchester City-bound Kalvin Phillips, but things did not go to plan, with the Whites suffering relegation to the Championship that season.

A release clause in his contract meant Adams was free to leave the next summer if a £20m bid was made, and off to Bournemouth he went.

Leeds fans at the time weren’t pleased with Adams and other players who immediately left upon relegation and the frosty feelings remain in place over two years later.

Adams was booed by the home fans as soon as his name was read out on the tannoy.

Fans even started less-than-pleasant chants in the direction of Adams once the game began, as reported by Beren Cross.

Adams did his reputation in Yorkshire no favours when he ploughed into Anton Stach, leaving him on the floor, and having a word as he got up to leave.

That started a fracas as Sean Longstaff pushed Adams away before the handbags were broken up by Ethan Ampadu.

What Tyler Adams said about Leeds United reunion

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s fixture, Adams opened up on his time at Leeds.

He told Bournemouth’s website: “The environment there was one of the best, if not the best, I’ve played in.

“The fans were incredible. I built so many good relationships, and I’m thankful for my time there. There were ups and downs, for sure.

“Sometimes I think, if I’d been able to play more, would the circumstances have been different for the team? But that’s football. I still have great memories and friendships from my time there.

“You always know that if you go to Elland Road, it’s going to be a difficult game – no matter what the circumstances are.”

Adams dealt with injuries during his single season at Leeds, with his absence credited as one of the causes for the club’s relegation.
